Judge Blasts IL-Best 16th Homer
Syracuse, N.Y. – The red-hot SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) picked up their league-best 13th shutout victory with a 5-0 blanking of the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals) on
Monday night. The RailRiders (46-32) posted their 15th win in 20 games while the Chiefs (36-40) lost to SWB for the first time at NBT Bank Stadium this year.
Starter Chad Green (6-6) fired six innings of three-hit ball. He struck out six, walked one and lowered his ERA to a league-best 1.54.
Chasen Shreve followed with a perfect seventh and Nick Goody worked around a pair of baserunners while whiffing six over the final two frames.
The RailRiders got the only run they would need in the second when
Jake Cave’s leadoff single was followed by Donovan Solano’s
RBI double. In the fourth, the first three SWB hitters reached and
scored thanks to another RBI double from Solano, a sac fly by
Jonathan Diaz and Ben Gamel’s hard run-scoring single up the middle.
Gamel’s base hit chased starter Taylor Hill (3-7) after 3.2 innings. Hill’s successor, Aaron Laffey, allowed a leadoff homer to
Aaron Judge in the fifth to round out the scoring. Judge, who was
named IL Batter of the Week earlier in the day, leads the International
League with 16 home runs.
SWB’s season-long
10-game road trip continues with the middle match of three against the
Chiefs at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday. SWB right-hander
Kyle Haynes (1-3, 5.06) will face fellow righty Austin Voth (4-3, 2.99).
The
RailRiders return home for a seven-game homestand starting on the
Fourth of July against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia
Phillies). The game includes post-game fireworks
presented by the PA Lottery; foam light-up sticks to the first 2,500
fans through the gates thanks to ShurSave Supermarkets; USA-themed
jerseys worn by the RailRiders; and Fourth-of-July hats worn by the team
that will be auctioned off during the game. For
