B-METS WIN 4-3

Smith’s Blast Buoys B-Mets to 4-3 Win
BINGHAMTON, NY- Dominic Smith belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to give the Binghamton Mets the lead for good in a 4-3 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels, Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium.
Trailing 2-1, Derrik Gibson led off the seventh with a pinch-hit single. Matt Oberste later worked a two-out walk to put runners at the corners for Smith. He drove a Tyler Mizenko pitch the opposite way to left, a three-run bomb that put Binghamton on top, 4-2.
Richmond struck first in the second. Christian Arroyo led off and hammered a pitch deep to left field. His solo shot put the Flying Squirrels on top, 1-0.
The B-Mets tied it in the bottom of the fifth with some help from the Richmond defense. L.J. Mazzilli led off with a single and Amed Rosario followed with a chopper deep to short. Arroyo faked a throw to first then fired to second where Mazzilli was off the bag. He throw sailed wide and Mazzilli and Rosario each advanced an extra base. Mazzilli then scored on a passed ball by Steve Lerud and the game was tied at one.
The Squirrels took the lead back in the sixth as Tyler Horan drove a solo shot to right, giving Richmond a 2-1 advantage.
Richmond tallied three hits and pushed one run across in the ninth but stranded two runners to end the ballgame and give the B-Mets a 4-3 win.
Casey Delgado struck out six and allowed two runs on six hits in six innings but did not factor in the decision. Kevin McGowan (1-0) struck out one in a 1-2-3 seventh and snagged the win.
Mizenko (0-4) allowed two runs on two hits over 1 2/3 innings and took the loss.
Smith finished 1-for-4 with a homer and three RBI and Rosario went 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
