CURVE EDGE B-METS 5-2

B-Mets Bested by Curve, 5-2
BINGHAMTON, NY- The Binghamton Mets never led as they were dropped by the Altoona Curve, 5-2, Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. The Curve collected 12 hits to hand Binghamton its seventh loss in its past eight games.
Altoona got the scoring started in the third with a two-out rally. Kevin Newman doubled and then scored on an Erich Weiss single, giving the Curve a 1-0 lead.
The B-Mets answered in the bottom of the inning as Tyler Pill smacked the first pitch he saw to the right field wall for a double. He later scored on a Kyle Johnson sacrifice fly to tie the game at one.
The Curve added one more in the fourth as Reese McGuire led off with a double and later scored on an Edwin Espinal single. In the sixth, McGuire smacked a leadoff triple then came in on another Espinal single, pushing the lead to 3-1.
Binghamton got one more with a two-out rally of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Dominic Smith clubbed a double off the wall in center field then scored on a Jayce Boyd single. After Xorge Carrillo singled to put two runners on, he was picked off on a snap throw by McGuire to end the inning with the score 3-2.
Altoona got some breathing room thanks to Harold Ramirez in the seventh. He blasted a two-run homer off of Alberto Baldonado to make it 5-2 in favor of the Curve.
Tyler Pill (3-8) allowed three runs on ten hits in six innings and took the loss. Alex McRae (1-2) picked up his first career Double-A win by holding Binghamton to two runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings. Montana DuRapau struck out the side in the ninth for his 12th save.
Smith finished 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and a run and Jayce Boyd went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Game two of the three-game series is set for Wednesday at 6:35 PM. RHP Rainy Lara gets the start for the B-Mets against RHP Clay Holmes for the Curve. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting a 6:20 PM on News Radio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
POSTGAME NOTES: The B-Mets recorded multiple extra base hits for the first time in their past seven games…Altoona relievers combined for six strikeouts over 3.1 perfect innings…Matt Oberste’s hitting streak was snapped at seven games.
