B-Mets Wild Win Snaps Losing Streak, 7-6

BINGHAMTON, NY- The Binghamton Mets plated four runs in the bottom of the first and held off a late surge to defeat the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 7-6, Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton’s win snapped a six-game losing streak.
The Flying Squirrels pulled within one in the eighth inning as Tyler Horan belted a solo shot deep to center to lead off the frame. Myles Schroder then reached on an error and later scored on a Jeff Arnold single. Beck Wheeler was summoned with one out and struck out Darren Ford then got Christian Arroyo to pop up to end the inning with the B-Mets leading 6-5.
Binghamton got an insurance run in the bottom of the eight as Xorge Carrillo walked and later scored on a wild pitch. Wheeler allowed an RBI single to Ricky Oropesa in the ninth but struck out three in the inning to shut the door for his fifth save.
Richmond got the scoring started with three in the first. Ali Castillo singled, Arroyo walked and Castillo scored on a groundout from Ryder Jones. Horan then singled in Arroyo and later scored when Oropesa singled, giving the Flying Squirrels a 3-0 lead.
Binghamton answered in a big way in the bottom of the inning. With two outs and a runner on first, Kyle Crick issued three consecutive walks to load the bases and score Amed Rosario. Stefan Sabol then cleared the bases with a three-run double off the wall in left center. The B-Mets took a 4-3 lead, sent eight men to the plate and chased Crick after he recorded only two outs.
The B-Mets extended their lead in the third as Dominic Smith drove a solo home run to left, his first at NYSEG Stadium and his fifth of the season. Rosario doubled in Derrik Gibson in the fourth to make it 6-3.
Sabol finished 1-for-3 with three RBI, a double and a walk, Smith was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two runs scored and Carrillo was 1-for-1 with three walks and two runs.
Mickey Jannis (2-7) picked up the win with three runs allowed on four hits over six innings. Crick (1-6) took the loss and allowed four runs on two hits and three walks over 2/3 of an inning.
Game two of the three-game set is scheduled for 7:05 PM on Saturday. RHP Casey Delgado gets the start for Binghamton against RHP Sam Coonrod for the Flying Squirrels. POSTGAME NOTES: Dominic Smith’s home run was the first for the B-Mets since Stefan Sabol went yard on 6/11 vs Hartford…Binghamton improved to 3-31 in games that it is out-hit by its opponent…four errors committed by the B-Mets were a season-high.
