B-METS BULLPEN GIVE 6-5 LOSS

B-Mets Bullpen Tumbles Off Tightrope, 6-5
ERIE, PA – Corey Jones belted a walk-off, three-run double off the right-field wall with two outs in the ninth to hand the Binghamton Mets a stunning 6-5 loss against the Erie SeaWolves on Thursday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park. Alberto Baldonado surrendered the game-sealing hit after inheriting the bases loaded from Akeel Morris. Binghamton suffered their second walk-off loss of the season and missed out on securing their second series sweep.
Owning a two-run lead, Morris allowed the first two to reach in the ninth on a walk and an infield single. The righty bounced back with consecutive strikeouts before walking Dean Green.
The lefty Baldonado took over bidding for his first save as a B-Met. Jones greeted the southpaw by ripping a 1-2 pitch over Stefan Sabol’s head in right. Pinch-runner Dominic Ficociello scored the game-winning run from first base, narrowly beating LJ Mazzilli’s relay throw to the plate.
Jones’ hit was the culmination of a sustained push from the SeaWolves. Trailing by as many as four runs, Erie put the potential tying run on base in the seventh and eighth before breaking through in the ninth.
Binghamton jumped out to an early lead with a four-run second inning. Following an RBI single by Colton Plaia, Mazzilli blasted a three-run homer over the wall in left-center field, his first career long ball.
Phillip Evans kept up his hot pace with his fourth consecutive multiple-hit game. The shortstop capped a three-hit game by lacing an RBI single into left that extended Binghamton’s lead in the seventh inning.
Mickey Jannis took a no-decision after pitching into the seventh inning. The righty allowed three runs on eight hits over 6-2/3 innings. The righty retired 12 straight SeaWolves in one stretch.
Morris (2-2) walked a season-high three and was charged with all three runs in the ninth in the loss. Baldonado suffered his first blown save.
Joe Jimenez (1-0) tossed a blank ninth to earn his first career Double-A win.
