RailRiders Lose Series Opener to Knights
Aaron Judge Reaches Twice, Notches Steal
Moosic, Pa. –
The Charlotte Knights scored early and pulled away for an 8-1 win over
the SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York
Yankees) on Monday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders (31-27) dropped
their third straight at home for the first time since four straight
defeats between two homestands, June 25-July 4, 2015. The Knights
(30-29) remain atop the International League South Division.
Chad Green
(4-5) shouldered his second straight defeat after allowing three
runs, two earned, over the first three innings. The right-hander
finished one out shy of six full innings and tossed 108 pitches. He
yielded eight hits, issued one walk and struck out two. Scott Carroll
(1-2) weaved his first quality start with the Knights,
limiting the RailRiders to one unearned run on two hits over six
innings. He walked three and struck out three.
The
Knights tallied runs over the first three frames thanks to a pair of
doubles by Danny Hayes and a run-producing single by Andy Parrino in the
second inning.
The RailRiders only tally came in the sixth when
Aaron Judge raced to third after Nicky Delmonico missed a catch on the warning track in right field. A groundout to first by
Jake Cave allowed Judge to cross for SWB’s only tally.
A Matt Davidson single off
Johnny Barbato in the seventh bumped the Knights’ lead to 4-1 and a run-scoring double by Omar Narvaez in the eighth padded the advantage, 5-1.
Neal Cotts relieved Barbato, but surrendered a Tim Anderson three-run homer
to center for the final runs.
The RailRiders continue their
series with the Charlotte Knights on Tuesday, June 7. It’s “Two Dollar
TwosDay” at PNC Field with a first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. Left-hander
Tyler Webb (1-0, 1.65) makes his third start. He will
oppose right-hander Terance Marin (3-5, 6.44). For tickets or more
