MOOSIC, Pa. (August 21, 2018) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and Buffalo Bisons were suspended in the bottom of the ninth, tied at one with one one and no one out Tuesday night. Play will resume Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday’s scheduled game will still be a nine-inning affair and take place 30-minutes after game one concludes.
After a one hour and 48 minutes rain delay to start the night, Tyler Wade opened the game with a triple against Brandon Cumpton. The infield played back for the Bisons and when Abiatal Avelino grounded out, Wade scored without a throw to give the RailRiders a 1-0 lead two batters in.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (3-for-4, 2B, RBI) delivered a screaming double to the wall in left-centerfield for to plate Dwight Smith Jr. who began the inning with a single and tie the game 1-1. The 8th inning featured the second relief inning of the night from Justus Sheffield who was the RailRiders projected starting pitcher Tuesday night but has been switched to the bullpen in a relief role now for SWB.

Buffalo’s starter Brandon Cumpton would retire nine of the next 10 batters and did not allow another hit until the 4th inning. He allowed just three hits total over 8.0 innings of one-run baseball in what was his longest outing of the season. Meanwhile, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre had Nestor Cortes on the mound for his fourth appearance of the season against the Bisons. He hadn’t allowed more than one earned run in any of the first three appearances against the, and he kept that streak alive with six shutout innings Tuesday. Overall in 2018, Cortes has allowed two earned runs over 21.0 innings against the Bisons (0.86 ERA).
Game Two of the series features RHP Chance Adams (3-5, 4.89) gets the start for the RailRiders against former New York Yankees farmhand LHP Matt Tracy (1-1, 2.06). Adam Marco and Adam Giardino have the call on NEPA Sports Radio The Game and the RailRiders Radio Network with pregame coverage for the entire evening of baseball beginning at 5:30 p.m.
