Sullivan County Welcomed 2 Country Music Legends
"Whispering Bill" Anderson and Ray Price are true legends in country music and both brought their musical talents to Sullivan County country music fans on two separate Friday nights in late August.
Anderson appeared August 12 at the Tri-Valley School Theater and this Country Music Hall of Famer showed why he is one of the most popular and most enduring entertainers of our time.
The nickname of "Whispering Bill" was given him years ago as a result of his breathy voice and his warm, soft approach to singing a country song. He clearly showed why he is one of the most awarded songwriters in the history of country music and his "Po' Folks Band showed why they have long been considered one of the finest instrumental and vocal groups in the business.
And after the show this million selling recording artist many times over took all the time his fans wanted to sign autographs and pose for pictures.
Ray Price and his 12 piece orchestra (including 4 violins, 2 violas, a cello and a bass) gave country music fans August 19 at the grandstand at Monticello Gaming & Raceway a smooth easy style which made it very evident why many call Price the "Crooner" of country music.
Price joked with his fans when he noted "I've got the sniffles and it must be true when they say New York is great for allergies."
Dressed more like business executives in dark colored suits (and Ray with his red tie) this 82-year-old country music legend can still sing with a beautiful tone in his voice. His fans greatly enjoyed his singing of "San Antonio Rose" and "For The Good Times."
Price clearly showed why his timeless music, incredible voice, and innovative genius have yet to be equaled by any other singer in today's country-music world.
And as big a star as he is he also stayed after the show to sign autographs.
One thing for sure Sullivan County continues to present great theater and musical entertainment and country music fans can thank Thunder Country radio for their strong support in our community.
