2008 MISS SULLIVAN COUNTY PAGEANT
MONTICELLO--The Miss Sullivan County Pageant played forth in splendor last Saturday afternoon in the Monticello High School auditorium and crowned a new Miss Sullivan County Teenager, Miss Sullivan County Pre-Teen and Young Miss Sullivan County.
Twenty-four young ladies competed for the three crowns in almost three-hours of competition before a crowd consisting of parents, grand parents, relatives, friends and many pageant supporters.
Seven girls competed for the Young Miss title, 8 girls in the Pre-Teen title and 9 young ladies in the Teenager competition.
Crowned Miss Sullivan County Young Miss was 7-year-old Angel Noelle Hermann, a student in the Sullivan West School District, crowned Sullivan County Pre-Teen was 12-year-old Sarah Carr from the RJK Middle School and crowned Miss Sullivan County Teenager was 15-year-old Ariana Kaminski from the Tri-Valley Central High School.
The three replace 2007 Pageant winners Young Miss Sullivan County Alyssa McCave, Miss Sullivan County Pre-Teen Tasha Curry and Miss Sullivan County Teenager Lauren Katz.
Pre-teen first runner-up was Marina Braddock, second runner-up Alexis Kearns and third runner-up was Brianna Worden.
Teenager first runner-up was Devinne Depuy, second runner-up Jamie Matero and third runner-up was Tabitha Curry.
The five judges were Elizabeth Klimchok, Jane Lawski, Shannon Brown, Michelle Siegel and Joanne McPhillips.
The theme of this years pageant was "Going Green" and each of the teenager contestants was asked the question of what going green meant to them.
Pageant directors include Christina Buckler, Maurice Gerry and Amy Bernhardt.
The pageant has been a popular event in Sullivan County since 1975 when it crowned their first Miss Teenager Debbie Chassis George. Pageant Director Christina Buckler won the pre-teen event in 1994 and Miss Sullivan County Teenager in 1997.
The pageant events included the presentation of all contestants in the opening number, introduction of the three judges, presentation of Young Miss contestants in casual wear, presentation of Pre-Teen contestants in casual wear, presentation of Teenager contestants in casual wear, presentation of Young Miss contestants in formal wear..
Following the intermission there was the presentation of Teenager contestants in formal wear and one minute speech.
There was then the presentation of the Miss Photogenic and Miss Congeniality Awards, the farewell speech of Young Miss Sullivan County 2007, the crowning of Young Miss Sullivan County 2008, the final question for the teenager finalists, the farewell speech of Miss Sullivan County Pre-Teen 2007, the crowning of Miss Sullivan County Pre-Teen 2008, the farewell speech of Miss Sullivan County Teenager 2007 and the crowning of Miss Sullivan /County Teenager 2008.
Mistress of Ceremonies was Christina Buckler.
Maurice Gerry, as always did an excellent job in directing many of the Pageant activities and thanked parents, relatives and friends of the Miss Sullivan County Pageant for their support and generosity in making this event a reality each year.
The pageant has been described by the directors of the event as a learning experience for all contestants and the girls gain self-confidence, make new friends, share experiences and the very fact that they are competing makes everyone a winner.
Gerry added that he looks forward each year to the "new crop of Sullivan County girls that I get to meet....they are a credit to our community and to all the girls I wish you every happiness, continued success and the joy of knowing you were part of the 2008 Miss Sullivan County Pageant."
He gave special thanks to all of the staff, associates, volunteers and friends and especially thanked assistant directors Christina Buckler and Amy Bernhardt. for "helping to make this pageant a success."
