PONIES WIN 1-0

Ponies Pitchers Proceed to Progress Perfectly, 1-0
BINGHAMTON, NY – Ricky Knapp combined with three relievers to guide the Binghamton Rumble Ponies to a 1-0 victory over the Hartford Yard Goats on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton earned their 20th shutout win of the season, extended their pitching staff’s scoreless streak to 21 innings and stretched their winning streak to seven games.
Knapp opened Binghamton’s pitching showcase with five scoreless innings. The righty allowed five hits, but held the Yard Goats hitless in six at-bats with runners in scoring position. Corey Taylor fanned three over two scoreless innings before Ben Griset fired a blank eighth inning.
The Ponies used speed to finally break the scoreless game in the eighth inning. Patrick Biondi opened the frame with a single and stole second, his third swipe of the game. Following a walk to Matt Oberste, David Thompson ripped Johendi Jiminian’s 1-1 pitch into left-center, bringing in Biondi with the game’s only run.
In the ninth, Jan Vazquez singled against Cory Burns, putting the potential tying run aboard. Stephen Cardullo followed with a chopper to second. Gustavo Nunez charged to snag the bouncing ball, tagged Vazquez and fired to first to complete the game-ending double play.
Griset (4-1) earned the victory while Burns sealed his 19th save of the season. Jiminian (0-3) allowed the game-winning run in the eighth and took the loss.
