PONIES AND THUNDER READY TO RUMBLE IN EASTERN LEAGUE PLAYOFFS: After finishing the 2017 regular season one win shy of the franchise record, Binghamton plays host to Trenton in Game 1 of the Eastern Division Championship Series, Wednesday at NYSEG Stadium. The Rumble Ponies concluded the regular season on a season-best eight-game win streak after sweeps of both Erie and Hartford at home.

BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Corey Oswalt gets the ball in Game 1, one week after being the named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year. The Double-A rookie won his final three starts of the regular season, and five of his final six. Oswalt’s 2.28 ERA is tops in the league, while his 12 wins rank second. In two starts against Trenton, he allowed three runs in 13 innings and posted a 1-0 record.

TRENTON STARTER: RHP Dillon Tate makes his fifth Double-A start since his call-up to Trenton on August 8. The 23-year-old sported a 6-0 mark with a 2.62 ERA in nine starts with High-A Tampa. In his four Eastern League starts, Tate has lasted six innings and tossed three or fewer runs three times. Tate was acquired by the New York Yankees on August 1, 2016 in the trade that sent Carlos Beltran to the Texas Rangers.

PLAYOFF HISTORY: Binghamton heads to the postseason for the fourth time in the last five seasons. In 2013, after winning the Eastern Division, the B-Mets were swept by the Thunder three games to none. That series is the only prior playoff meeting between Trenton and Binghamton.

BEST OF THE METS: Binghamton is the only Mets affiliate with an above. 500 record and only one headed to the playoffs in 2017. Only Brooklyn (SS-A) has regular season games remaining.

LATE-GAME LOCKDOWN: No team was better than Binghamton with a lead after five innings. The Rumble Ponies posted a 60-3 mark in the regular season with a post-fifth inning advantage. Their 60 wins is second only to Trenton, which finished 67-7 in those scenarios.

SCOUTING THE THUNDER: Trenton finished the regular season with the Eastern League’s top mark. The Thunder return to the Eastern League playoffs for the second straight season after being swept by the Akron RubberDucks in last year’s Championship Series. Trenton last won an Eastern League title in 2013 and split six regular season games with Binghamton during the 2017 regular season.

POWER ‘PEN: Binghamton’s bullpen has tossed 27.1 straight scoreless innings during Binghamton’s eight-game winning streak. They’ve struck out 28 and walked four during the stretch. Cory Burns has converted his last 15 save chances.

UP NEXT: Binghamton hosts Trenton on Thursday evening in Game 2 of the Eastern Division Championship Series. RHP Ricky Knapp tosses against RHP Brody Koerner. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM at NYSEG Stadium.
