CHESTER BATS COMES ALIVE

GRAHAMSVILLE--The league-leading Chester Hambletonians boys varsity baseball team pounded out 12 hits against two Tri-Valley pitchers last Thursday to defeat the  Bears 13-3.
Chester has already captured the league championship and entered this game sporting an overall  12-4 record along with a  10-1 OCIAA Division V record.
With this loss Tri-Valley has a 6-8 overall record and 3-7 in OCIAA Division V league play. The  task ahead of the Bears is that they must win three out of four of their games this week hosting Eldred yesterday, Sullivan West today and Liberty Wednesday to get into the sectional playoffs.
The Bears last year faced a similar situation and won key games to make into the playoff schedule.
Bears coach John Rusin feels confident that his team can win three out of four games and during post game remarks said " these guys are more than capable of doing that and it's just a matter of getting out and getting it done."
Rusin added that the team "has to put complete games together including playing good defense, hitting well and we gotta throw strikes."
When asked about errors and miscues in Thursday's game Rusin added, "any mistake we made in today's game was not the difference in the game...as we just got outhit."
"Chester did a great job hitting today as they used all fields and they are really a good team," Rusin concluded.
The Hambletonians wasted no time getting on the scoreboard pushing  across one run in the first inning, five in the third, one in the fourth, three in the fifth,  two in the sixth and one in the seventh.
Chester's  five-run third inning came off a single to center, a errant pick off pitch, a single to left, a passed ball, , an intentional walk, a double to right, a stolen base, and a fly ball out that brought in the runner from third.
Tri-Valley's three runs included one  in the third and two in the sixth.
Heavy hitters for Chester included Aidan Witteking who was 3 for 4 with a double and five RBI's, Zack Munderville with 3 hits and Rob Alonso with 3 hits.
Wittekind started this day on the junior varsity and was recommended to come up to the varsity that morning to be Chester's designated hitter....turned out to be quite a day for this freshman.
Winning pitcher was Wilson Jimenez who tossed a 6-hitter with five strikeouts.
Losing pitcher was Jared Nash. Justin Swarthout went 3 for 3 for the Bears and Thomas Decker recorded an RBI.
Chester coach Mike Doucette in noting that his team clinched first place on May 11 said " it looks like we have locked up the two seed for the sectionals." Webatuck is the number one seed.
In comments about his teams hitting skills Doucette noted " we've come around ever since our third game with Tuxedo and where we adjusted the lineup with the result of scoring double digit runs every game."
