Rick Lake
Scores 5th Career 300
Good timing for saying if my brother scores two 300 games then I
can at least score one 300 game and such was the case in the February 25 Monday
Men's league at Kiamesha Lanes when 51-year-old Monticello bowler Rick Lake
pounded the maples for his 5th career 300 game.
On Monday February 18 his brother Eddie recorded two 300 games in
this same league and the two brothers also bowl on the same team.
Rick's 300 was bowled on lanes 11 & 12 using an Ebonite Gyro
Urethane and Rick noted, "all balls were good hits and I had the messenger take
out the 10 pin in one frame."
He bowls in this one league and subs at times in the Tuesday Mixed
Firemen's league. Rick's Monday night average is 231. The 300 came in the last
game of the night as he put together a 772 series off single games of 247, 225,
300.
The Monday night team he bowls with is Team Lake consisting of his
father Mickey Lake, Roy Sweeney and his brother Eddie Lake.
Rick's fourth career 300 was bowled on January 30, 2012, his
third 300 was recorded April 18, 2011 and his second on March 8, 2010, all at
Kiamesha Lanes
Lake comes from a well known and highly respected Sullivan County
bowling family.
Lake's first perfect game was bowled 7 to 9 years ago at Kiamesha
Lanes in the Monday Men's league.
Rick's mom, Joan Lake, has been a dominant force in area bowling
circles for a number of years and brother Eddie is considered one of the top
male bowlers in the tri-county area.
Rick has been bowling for some 47 years starting out in the
Kiamesha Lanes youth leagues.
In addition to bowling Rick golf's in a couple of area leagues
and he and his wife are noted motorcycle enthusiasts who enjoy riding their
Harley-Davidson throughout the country.
Rick has been married to his wife Jane for some 20 years. The
Lake's have no children and Rick is a 29-year employee at the Catskill Regional
Medical Center.

The
Bowling Tip
By Mike
Luongo
Learning the
five fundamentals of a good bowling shot.
So very often we forget the most
basic steps that are designed to help us have fun and score a good
game.
These steps include getting ready
in the stance position by taking a deep breath, bringing in air into your nose
and exhaling through your mouth.
The next step is getting lined up,
before the start of your match practice a couple of shots to see what the lane
conditions are and even take a look at other bowlers and see what they are
doing. You should watch your ball reaction and don't force your ball to curve.
Equipment selection is important here.
Want good balance then make your
first step a short one.....this adds greatly to ending up with good balance when
you release your ball.
Keeping a loose swing is also
important, stay away from using too much muscle. When you are ready to bowl make
sure your hand and arm are relaxed before you start your
approach.
As you start the ball moving in
your approach, make sure that the ball moves in a straight line toward the
target on the lane. This will prevent your swing from going off line. Let the
rest of your swing be relaxed and keep it in a straight line toward your
target.
