Lake Scores Two 300's
Forty-nine year old Monticello kegler Eddie Lake likes to bowl his
300 games in groups of two.
In the February 18 Monday Men's league at Kiamesha Lanes Lake
blasted the maples for a 300, 245, 300 and a 845 series using a Hammer Epidemic
bowling ball on lanes 13-14.
Ed credits his accomplishments and his 16th and 17th career 300's
to a bowling ball recently drilled out for him by Josh Strang at Strang's Pro
Shop located at Kiamesha Lanes.
Lake, in commenting about the two 300 games in the Monday night
three-game series said, "all strikes were in the pocket for the two 300 games
and in the middle game I had five in a row and in the sixth frame came up a
little high and left the 4-9, buried the ball in the next two frames and left
the 10 pin in each and then finished out with four in a row."
Lake is presently carrying a 234 average in the Friday Mixed league
and a 227 in the Monday league, the two leagues he regularly bowls
in.
Ed on Monday night bowls with the Lake team consisting of his
father, Mickey Lake, his brother Rick Lake and Roy Sweeney.
Ed recorded his 14th career 300 on Monday, March 12, 2012 and his
13th 300 on March 27, 2012.
And it's awhile since Lake has used wasn't using his old Hammer
bowling ball but he still talks about his old Hammer and bowls with it
occasionally. He still believes in the fact that some of the old bowling
equipment can still do the job.
About two years ago Lake had been without his 24-year-old Hammer as
it was being repaired by Mickey Luongo and when he got the ball back within two
weeks the old Hammer resulted in the Eddie Lake "300 game Express for his ninth
300 game on December 29, 2008.
During the 2007-08 bowling season Lake recorded four 300 games.
Eddie had a 300 on January 21, 2008, scored another 300 in the second game of a
match November 9, 2008 making it his third perfect 300 game that
season.
Eddie on October 1 and October 2, 2007, made Sullivan County
bowling history by bowling 300 games on consecutive nights all at Kiamesha
Lanes.
His high 856 series was bowled in 2004 in the Wednesday Men's
league at Kiamesha Lanes.
Considered one of the premier bowlers in the tri-county area,
Lake is single, is employed by Kiamesha Lanes and comes from a well known
Sullivan County bowling family consisting of brother, Ricky, his mother Joan and
father Mickey.

The Bowling Tip
By Mike Luongo
Bowlers: This week's tip was suggested by a league bowler and
applies mostly to those bowlers who are using modern bowling balls.
You may not know that the modern bowling ball is porous with
several different densities and has numerous chemicals in the cover
stocks.
As these balls change temperature, the cover and core will expand
and contract. Due to the different materials used for the core, inner core and
cover, this fluctuation occurs at different rates.
Leaving the ball in a car when temperatures are severe, very hot
or very cold, the expansion and contraction causes severe stress on the cover.
This stress us even greater when a cold ball is used to bowl while it is still
cold. This may cause the ball to crack.
So the tip is not only educational but let it serve as a reminder
to take care of your bowling ball investment--avoid the experience that the
above mentioned bowler went through--and if you carry your balls to and from the
center, don't leave them in your car. Mike Luongo is a certified
