The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
proudly announce the hiring of John Sadak as the team’s new director of media
relations & broadcasting. Sadak (SAY-dack) comes to NEPA from the Wilmington
(Del.) Blue Rocks where he served in a similar role since 2006. His tenure with
the club will begin on Nov. 5.
“I
am honored and excited to join the SWB Yankees and the NEPA community,” said
Sadak, who will serve as the team’s chief media relations contact and lead radio
voice. “The opportunity to call games for the top minor league affiliate of my
boyhood favorite team in a brand new ballpark is a true thrill. The season
cannot get here soon enough.”
At
the conclusion of the 2012 baseball season, Sadak was named the Carolina League
Broadcaster of the Year through a vote of his peers along with runner-up
accolades for Minor League Broadcaster of the Year from BallparkDigest.com. The
New York City native’s background includes time in the front office of the
27-time World Champion New York Yankees as the big league team’s assistant
director of broadcasting/scoreboard operations from 2005-06.
The 34-year-old announces college
sports nationally for the Dial Global Sports Radio Network (formerly Westwood
One) and the ESPN family of networks. This winter, he will add college
basketball duties with CBS Sports Network. The two-time Delaware Sportscaster of
the Year also calls games for the 26-time Ivy League champion Princeton
University men’s basketball program and the nationally-ranked University of
Delaware women’s basketball team.
“We are thrilled to have someone of John’s caliber join
our team,” said SWB Yankees president & general manager Rob Crain. “Our
staff is shaping up to be one the best in all of Minor League Baseball and the
addition of John makes us that much better.”
Through the years, the Rowan University (N.J.)
graduate’s work has been recognized by the Delaware Press Association,
Philadelphia Press Association, New Jersey Associated Press Broadcasters’
Association, Society of Professional Journalists, Communicator Awards and the
WGLS-FM Hall of Fame. He replaces Mike Vander Woude who stepped down from the
position after the 2012 season to devote more time to his family.
Sadak’s NEPA broadcast debut will
come with the grand opening of a renovated PNC Field on April 4 when the
defending International League champion Pawtucket Red Sox come to town for a
rematch of their 2012 playoff clash with SWB. It will mark the first "Thirsty
Thursday" promotion of the year with $1 beer specials and $1 Pepsi products
along with a pre-game live band performance. Club seating, partial and
full-season ticket plans are now available. Please call 570-969-2255 for more
information and to place an
order.
