Another Great Pageant For Sullivan County
Sullivan County is putting itself on the map as "Pageant Country" with the recent announcement that a new non-profit pageant group has emerged calling itself The Miss Sullivan County & Miss Southeast NY Organization.
Neversink resident Christina Buckler is the director.
The new pageant will be a local preliminary for the Miss New York and Miss America Pageants and will be the first time that such an event will be held in Sullivan County.
Sullivan County is also the home of the existing Miss Sullivan County Teenager, Pre-Teen and Young Miss Pageant directed by Maurice Gerry. This pageant has been held annually since 1975 and will continue to be held later this fall.
The new Miss Sullivan County & Miss Southeast NY Pageant will become an additional opportunity for Sullivan County girls and young ladies throughout New York State to compete with the winners going on to compete in the Miss New York Pageant later this year with the winner going on to compete in the Miss America Pageant in 2010.
The Miss America Pageant is the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women and as a result, this local pageant offers the opportunity for girls to win up to $40,000 in scholarships.
The Miss America Organization is also a large supporter of the Children's Miracle Network and for every Miss contestant that competes, a minimum of $100 is donated to this worthy cause.
On March 28 four young ladies will be crowned as Miss Sullivan County's Outstanding Teen, Miss Sullivan County, Miss Southeast NY's Outstanding Teen and Miss Southeast NY.
Giving great support to the event is the Villa Roma where this Pageant will be held, the Sullivan County Visitors Association and The Mary Ellen Dowdell Foundation and her family.
