SEA DOGS EDGE PONIES 4-1

Sea Dogs Stifle Rumble Ponies in Series Opener
BINGHAMTON, NY –  Three left-handed pitchers limited the Rumble Ponies to five hits in Portland’s 4-1 series-opening win Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Dedgar Jimenez led the charge, tossing six shutout innings with seven strikeouts in the Sea Dogs first win over Binghamton since July 17. Portland never trailed for their third win in the last five games.
Harol Gonzalez’s search for his first Double-A win continues following Friday’s loss. The Double-A rookie allowed one first-inning run, permitting the Sea Dogs to lead from start to finish. With the bases loaded and one out, Chris Madera was robbed of extra bases and multiple RBI’s when Ian Strom made a diving catch in left-center field. The spectacular play limited Madera to a sacrifice fly, and the Sea Dogs to just one opening-inning run.
Gonzalez (0-9) received no support from the Binghamton bats, before coughing up three more runs in the fourth inning. Madera made his mark again, this time with a one-out double. After a pivotal two-out walk was issued to Jhon Nunez, Danny Mars made Gonzalez pay with an RBI single. Denier Lopez provided the big blow, a two-out two-run triple, stretching the lead to 4-0.
The 23-year-old right-hander lasted five innings, but suffered his ninth Double-A loss in as many tries. Gonzalez struck out three and walked two.
Jimenez (10-7), meanwhile, continued to victimize opposing hitters, winning his third straight start and eighth his last 11. The southpaw allowed leadoff singles in the second (Patrick Mazeika) and the third innings (Ian Strom), and never allowed another hit in his sixth-inning effort - the final 15 batters he faced failed to garner a hit. He struck out seven, despite issuing five free passes.
Jhoan Urena supplied the Rumble Ponies only run on an eighth-inning infield single, scoring Terdoslavich.
Stephen Nogosek and Matt Blackham combined to fire four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Binghamton (63-74) and Portland continue the final series of the season on Saturday. RHP Mickey Jannis goes for the Rumble Ponies against Sea Dogs southpaw Daniel McGrath. First pitch at NYSEG Stadium is scheduled for 6:05 PM. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 5:50 PM and can be heard on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn.
