Fans of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) are indeed missing a lot of the action if they are not subscribers to the PBA Xtra Frame.
If you are an ardent fans of the sport of bowling and in particular the PBA then Xtra Frame is a must.
The subscription video and multimedia service was recently visited by Bowling Highlights News when the tour stop made its way to Norwich, CT during the week of March 16-22 at the Norwich Bowling & Entertainment Center.
At the Norwich Bowling & Entertainment Center we also had the opportunity to meet and talk to the new PBA PR/Media Relations Manager Mike Jukubowski, a very talented rich professional.
Mike pointed out that the Xtra Frame features live each week the round of 8 finals, new features for live scoring, including pin tracker technology, exclusive player interviews, special "behind the scenes" features on topics such as ball lay-out, live on the road, setting up for a PBA event, weekly oil pattern review, interview with each week's winner, special matches made for only Xtra Frame viewers and fans choice videos.
With the PBA's plans for the first half of the 2009-10 Tour consisting of mostly taped telecasts derived from a five-week stay in the metro Detroit area a lot of what's going on in the PBA will be available because of more planned Xtra Frame coverage.
PBA bowlers will bowl in Detroit from August 1 through September 6 in what they are calling the "World Series of Bowling." The taped telecasts be aired during the months of October through December but live coverage of some parts of this competition will be available on Xtra Frame.
The only live show in December will be the PBA World Championship on December 13. Starting in January 10 tournament with live TV coverage will run from January through April.
Cutting down on the live TV show coverage during October through December and the setting up of the in house television arena will cut TV production costs about $100,000 per live show.
PBA officials are saying that when the tour was big on Saturday afternoons on ABC it was January through April when everybody watched and they feel they will be able to make that half of the years tour bigger and better.
Enter Xtra Frame which is growing in leaps and bounds and this Internet based media will surely become more popular with the announced changes for the 2009-10 PBA Tour season.
Jakubowski pointed out that PBA fans viewing Xtra Frame get to see great matches like the Wes Malott vs Chris Barnes battle and they were also treated to the PBA 50th anniversary gala video and the Walter Ray Williams Jr. Peter Weber exhibition webcast match.
The PBA's online source for exclusive video programming is becoming more and more popular and the addition of PR/Media Relations Manager Mike Jakibowski make the shows appearance much more professional.
As a professional consultant Mike is also presently the managing partner at MJ Worldwide, LLC. He previously has been manager of Sponsorship Acquisitions at the United States Bowling Congress, formerly director of electronic media operations at the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club and he has been the Video Production Manager at the Wisconsin Center District.
Seeing Mike in action at several of the Pro tour stops this year we have seen a very dedicated professional with experience in integrated marketing/communications and shows that he has an excellent track record which demonstrates consistent achievement and advancement by means of motivational leadership, creative asset management and constructive team building.
One of Mike's many specialties which is very evident as he works the mike at the PBA tour stops is how he handles the live special event production of Extra Frame and the preliminary events prior to the start of the live TV show Sunday afternoons.

The Bowling Tip

Bowlers: This week's tip is for bowlers using performance bowling balls. These balls are made of urethane, urethane with reactive additives, with or without particles.
All performance balls come out of the box with either some degree of matte finish, a compounded finish or polished finish,
When a manufacturer chooses a box finish for a bowling ball, many times it is for shelf appeal. All companies want you to choose their products. What you need to know as a customer is that the cover on your performance ball can be adjusted to best fit your needs.
What does this mean for a customer? To maximize your scoring ability on a given lane condition, the cover stock of your bowling ball must match the lane condition. If your ball is grabbing too early, you will need some polish. If the ball is already polished, use a higher degree of polish, preferably something with a slip agent. This will help you get the ball down the lane with less effort. The tell tale sign of a ball grabbing the lane too soon is when you see the ball start to hook and then it stops hooking.
On the other hand, if you ball is skidding too far down the lane, you will need surface friction on the ball. How much friction you need will depend on your ball speed, rev rate and the amount of oil on the lane. The degree of matte finish could be as little as 4000 or as much as 320.
Reminder....these are adjustments to fine tune your ball reaction. It is up to your Pro Shop professional to help you purchase the ball or balls with the proper core and cover to match both your game and the lane surface on which you bowl. Depending on how serious you are about your bowling, and how many centers you bowl in, you may need more than one ball to help you match the conditions.
And always remember.....your equipment should be cleaned each time it is used.

Years Champions
The Tri-County NY USBC has announced the champions of this years tournaments held at Kiamesha Lanes.
In the Women's Tournament the first place team champion is Pin Busters. Members of that team include Karen Yahnke, Cathy Mioduscewski, Antonia Loyer and Soly Zimmerman. Their winning score was 2646. They were awarded championship shirts and $500.
Second place and $300 went to Dean Construction with a 2625 score. Third place was Accord Speedway and $200 went to this squad with a 2603 score. Fourth place was Nisbitts Tae Kwon Do who won $100 with a 2573 score. Fifth place was Mullers Auto Body who won $84 with a 2571 score.
Doubles event champions were Maria Golfsmith and Donna Bilyeu with a 1368 score. Shirts and $250 were award to this team.
Singles event champion was Lois DuBois with a 713 score. She won a championship shirt and $125.
All Events champion is Soly Zimmerman with a 2182 winning score good for a championship shirt and $42.
Men's team champion in the Open Tournament division is Boy's Nite Out with team members Paul Minton, Edwin Blume, Frank Emmens and Dwayne Cabrera. Their winning score was 3100. Championship shirts and $600 went to the winning squad.
The See Ya team comprised of Soly Zimmerman, Antonia Loyer, Dale Loyer and Eric Zimmerman took second place with a 2925 total goof for $336.
Doubles champions are Soly Zimmerman and Eric Zimmerman with a 1607 total. $300 and championship shirts were awarded to this team.
Singles event champion is Dwayne Cabrera with a 923 total good for $200 and a shirt.
All Events champion is Dwayne Cabrera with a 2617 total good for $100 and a shirt.
