A Great Bowling
Season...See You
In Mid-September

An interesting 2008-09 bowling season is coming to an end. We certainly did not see the onslaught of 300 games as in years past and the economy did have some effect on overall bowling revenue.
Our congratulations to the many high average bowlers this season and to those who crafted those high scores and series.
Once again we find great disappointment in overall participation in the association tournament. The association will have to do a better job in the future by adding more incentive and much more prize money if this tournament expects to attract additional bowlers.
Criticism also to the association tournament committee who should become more familiar with tournament rules and re-rating procedures.
The entry deadline for the 84th Annual New York State USBC Open (Men's) Championship Tournament has been extended until May 24. Entry forms can be obtained by visiting bowl.com/associations.
Bowlers should not forget summer bowling leagues...call your local bowling establishment for details.
It's rap up time bowlers......have a healthy and fun-filled summer......see you in mid-September.

Malott Retains Crown as “King of Bowling” Series Begins
Newly-crowned PBA Player of the Year turns back Barnes in first Amp Energy test

Newly-crowned Professional Bowlers Association Player of the Year Wes Malott of Pflugerville, Texas, withstood the first challenge to his reign as King of Bowling, defeating Chris Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, Wednesday night in the inaugural King of Bowling Powered by Amp Energy telecast at Lake Wales, Fla.

Trailing Barnes by nine pins after four frames, Malott when went on a seven-strike binge, racing away to a 268-214 victory after Barnes lost his carry.

Barnes, No. 3 in the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour Player of the Year points race, won a brilliant battle with No. 3 Norm Duke of Clermont, Fla., 257-248, for the right to challenge Malott for the King of Bowling throne. Barnes converted the 6-7-10 split in the sixth frame and then finished his game with six strikes in a row. Needing a strike for a shot at a 259 game of his own, Duke then left a 10 pin on his second shot in his half of the 10th frame.

While the preliminary match was going on, Malott had a chance to observe how the two leading challengers to his Player of the Year title were attacking the lanes.

“The king gets to decide which lane conditioning pattern is used,” Malott noted. “I went with the Scorpion pattern because I’ve had quite a bit of success on that one all year.

“The king has to sit on a throne right next to the action,” he continued, “so I had a bird’s eye view of what was going on. I knew the scores would be high, and I figured I’d just try to out-strike everyone. As it turned out, the lanes broke down just a little bit. I made a couple of slight adjustments that worked, and I threw the ball really well.”

Malott knew he was going to have his hands full, regardless of whom he had to bowl.

“At the end of the season, I did OK, but I wasn’t even a threat to make a TV show the last couple of tournaments,” he said. “I was fighting some timing issues. Being at the Kegel Training Center and knowing the way the lanes were oiled, the condition was fairly snug which allowed me to stay slow. By staying slow, it kinda fixed my timing issues.”

In a way, he was also pleased he got a chance to defend his King of Bowling crown against Barnes because of the way Barnes’ season ended in the Lumber Liquidators U.S. Open.

“(U.S. Open champion Mike) Scroggins knew he was fortunate to win,” Malott said. “Barnes threw one of the best shots of his career in the 10th frame and left an 8 pin. That 8 pin possibly cost him another U.S. Open title and possibly the Player of the Year title. But he was also the first guy to text me after the show and congratulate me. I gained that much more respect for him.”

By defeating Barnes, Malott collected $10,000 and earned the right to return as King of Bowling in week two of the five-week series of one-hour King of Bowling Powered by Amp Energy telecasts – all of which air on ESPN2 at 9 p.m. Eastern on Wednesdays through May 20. In the next show, Malott will bowl the winner of a match between Patrick Allen of Wesley Chapel, Fla., and Scroggins, the No. 4 and No. 5 players in the 2008-09 Player of the Year points race.

In week two, Malott also will confront ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption” co-host Mike Wilbon, an enthusiastic casual bowler who accepted to bowl a game against Malott.

The week one King of Bowling Powered by Amp Energy show will re-air on ESPN2 on Sunday, April 26, at 1 p.m. Eastern.

Here & There Column 4-21-09

Where Is The Truth In Politics ?

Can we trust our politicians and do they know how to tell the truth?
This is truly a sincere question we have following a recent scenario involving local politicians and we have heavy concerns from these individuals when it comes to giving statements that are questionable.
On a county level recently near the end of March District 1 Legislator David Sager sent an email (copy of which was sent to this columnist) whereby he challenged and questioned County Manager David Fanslau and Legislature Chairman Jonathan Rouis about statements in which they claimed no knowledge of county jobs offered to Minority Leader Leni Binder.
Sager's email said, "you know damn well that you and some of your subversive cohorts have been offering Leni a job for many months," and "having seen you both in operation, I clearly understand your methods....get faced with the facts in public and deny, deny, deny."
The District 1 legislator's email said " I have a novel idea...instead of finding sneaky ways to manipulate your voting power and support your 'agenda', just do the right thing and be honest public servants that really give a damn about Sullivan County."
Sager went on to state, "to say that we need this reform in this county is the understatement of the century....too bad the AG's office doesn't seem to know that the county exists.....boy would they have a field day."
The District 1 legislator concluded by saying, "the fact that you would essentially attempt to bribe an elected official to remove her from office is unconscionable."
Legislady Binder shortly after that acknowledged that "I've had an offer from the county," with Chairman Rouis and Manager Fanslau saying they were not aware of any offers made to Binder.
The truth should be known here but will most likely never come to the surface.
Truth in politics.....the general public would like to see more of it.

PBA PR/Media Relations Manager Mike Jakubowski

Jeff Mark, left, Production Coordinator for the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) and Mike Jakubowski, PBA PR/Media Relations Manager prepare to go on the air with the PBA Xtra Frame Internet show.

Xtra Frame & Mike Jakubowski

Fans of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) are indeed missing a lot of the action if they are not subscribers to the PBA Xtra Frame.
If you are an ardent fans of the sport of bowling and in particular the PBA then Xtra Frame is a must.
The subscription video and multimedia service was recently visited by Bowling Highlights News when the tour stop made its way to Norwich, CT during the week of March 16-22 at the Norwich Bowling & Entertainment Center.
At the Norwich Bowling & Entertainment Center we also had the opportunity to meet and talk to the new PBA PR/Media Relations Manager Mike Jukubowski, a very talented rich professional.
Mike pointed out that the Xtra Frame features live each week the round of 8 finals, new features for live scoring, including pin tracker technology, exclusive player interviews, special "behind the scenes" features on topics such as ball lay-out, live on the road, setting up for a PBA event, weekly oil pattern review, interview with each week's winner, special matches made for only Xtra Frame viewers and fans choice videos.
With the PBA's plans for the first half of the 2009-10 Tour consisting of mostly taped telecasts derived from a five-week stay in the metro Detroit area a lot of what's going on in the PBA will be available because of more planned Xtra Frame coverage.
PBA bowlers will bowl in Detroit from August 1 through September 6 in what they are calling the "World Series of Bowling." The taped telecasts be aired during the months of October through December but live coverage of some parts of this competition will be available on Xtra Frame.
The only live show in December will be the PBA World Championship on December 13. Starting in January 10 tournament with live TV coverage will run from January through April.
Cutting down on the live TV show coverage during October through December and the setting up of the in house television arena will cut TV production costs about $100,000 per live show.
PBA officials are saying that when the tour was big on Saturday afternoons on ABC it was January through April when everybody watched and they feel they will be able to make that half of the years tour bigger and better.
Enter Xtra Frame which is growing in leaps and bounds and this Internet based media will surely become more popular with the announced changes for the 2009-10 PBA Tour season.
Jakubowski pointed out that PBA fans viewing Xtra Frame get to see great matches like the Wes Malott vs Chris Barnes battle and they were also treated to the PBA 50th anniversary gala video and the Walter Ray Williams Jr. Peter Weber exhibition webcast match.
The PBA's online source for exclusive video programming is becoming more and more popular and the addition of PR/Media Relations Manager Mike Jakibowski make the shows appearance much more professional.
As a professional consultant Mike is also presently the managing partner at MJ Worldwide, LLC. He previously has been manager of Sponsorship Acquisitions at the United States Bowling Congress, formerly director of electronic media operations at the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club and he has been the Video Production Manager at the Wisconsin Center District.
Seeing Mike in action at several of the Pro tour stops this year we have seen a very dedicated professional with experience in integrated marketing/communications and shows that he has an excellent track record which demonstrates consistent achievement and advancement by means of motivational leadership, creative asset management and constructive team building.
One of Mike's many specialties which is very evident as he works the mike at the PBA tour stops is how he handles the live special event production of Extra Frame and the preliminary events prior to the start of the live TV show Sunday afternoons.
Congratulations to the PBA for the great addition of Mike Jakubowski to this venue.

The Bowling Tip
By Mike Luongo

Bowlers: This week's tip is for bowlers using performance bowling balls. These balls are made of urethane, urethane with reactive additives, with or without particles.
All performance balls come out of the box with either some degree of matte finish, a compounded finish or polished finish,
When a manufacturer chooses a box finish for a bowling ball, many times it is for shelf appeal. All companies want you to choose their products. What you need to know as a customer is that the cover on your performance ball can be adjusted to best fit your needs.
What does this mean for a customer? To maximize your scoring ability on a given lane condition, the cover stock of your bowling ball must match the lane condition. If your ball is grabbing too early, you will need some polish. If the ball is already polished, use a higher degree of polish, preferably something with a slip agent. This will help you get the ball down the lane with less effort. The tell tale sign of a ball grabbing the lane too soon is when you see the ball start to hook and then it stops hooking.
On the other hand, if you ball is skidding too far down the lane, you will need surface friction on the ball. How much friction you need will depend on your ball speed, rev rate and the amount of oil on the lane. The degree of matte finish could be as little as 4000 or as much as 320.
Reminder....these are adjustments to fine tune your ball reaction. It is up to your Pro Shop professional to help you purchase the ball or balls with the proper core and cover to match both your game and the lane surface on which you bowl. Depending on how serious you are about your bowling, and how many centers you bowl in, you may need more than one ball to help you match the conditions.
And always remember.....your equipment should be cleaned each time it is used.
Mike Luongo is technically certified through IBPSIA as a Pro Shop Operator and Master Instructor. He is also a Silver Level Coach with the USBC and is also the Northeast Regional Sales Manager with the Storm and Roto Grip Bowling Ball Company. Carolyn Dorin-Ballard

Dorin-Ballard Almost a “10” in PBA Women’s Series Showdown Win
Hall of Famer breaks TV record with 20 consecutive strikes in women’s special event

Carolyn Dorin-Ballard was almost a “10” in recording one of the most unusual victories in her hall of fame bowling career at the Kagal Training Center.

Dorin-Ballard, one of the most successful women bowlers in history, rolled a television record 20 consecutive strikes, including 11 in a row in the title match, to win the inaugural PBA Women’s Series Showdown presented by the United States Bowling Congress which aired on ESPN last Sunday.

In an event that employed the Johnny Petraglia Scoring System for the first time on national television, the Keller, Texas, resident posted a near-perfect score of 11 in the Championship Round Title match to nip Jodi Woessner of Oregon, Ohio, by a single point and rising star Stefanie Nation of Arlington, Texas, by two points.

Under the Petraglia system, players receive one point for each ball thrown in each frame – and the lowest score wins. A perfect game – 10 strikes – is a “10.” And that’s what Dorin-Ballard almost had, except for the 10 pin she left (and converted) in her 10th frame. Woessner nearly matched her, rolling eight strikes along with a pair of spares in the third and fourth frames for a score of 12. Nation threw seven strikes and converted three spares for her score of 13.

“I’m still in shock,” Dorin-Ballard said. “I was lucky to get into the championship round.”

Dorin-Ballard, who collected a $25,000 first prize, also threw nine strikes in the Championship Round Wild Card match, but she wound up in a 12-12 tie with Wendy Macpherson of Henderson, Nev., because she missed a single pin spare conversion attempt in the second frame. Needing a third shot to make the six pin in that frame, Dorin-Ballard’s score of three for that frame kept Macpherson in the match. Dorin-Ballard then had to throw another three strikes in a row to nip Macpherson by a single pin to win a three-ball roll-off to get into the championship round.

“Any time you bowl Wendy Macpherson, you have to bowl your best game,” Dorin-Ballard said. “All of these ladies know how to strike. I knew I had to keep striking to have a chance.”

It was a unique event for the six top performers in the PBA Women’s Series presented by USBC champions during the 2008-09 season, and it gave the women an opportunity to showcase their bowling skills in an usual bowling environment.

“I am glad the women are back on television,” Dorlin-Ballard added. “This series of events is a step in the right direction for the future of women’s professional bowling. With the help of the PBA, USBC, Brunswick, Dexter, Turbo and Kegel, it’s just a matter of time before other sponsors come forward and see the value of the women’s tour.”

Clergy Speak About Economic Discipline

We spent several hours for lunch recently with two members of the tri-county clergy who spoke about the loss of economic discipline and how America today is the largest debtor in the world.
The two prominent members of the clergy said they would speak openly to me but asked that they not be identified because they feared repercussions from some members of their congregations and possibly from the government.
They openly confessed being somewhat conservative fundamentalist pastors with fairly large congregations.
Some history was brought into our conversation with one pastor pointing out that ancient Rome fell because of massive spending and financial difficulty and lessons of history indicate that the loss of economic discipline can lead to the destruction of a nation.
"America is spending itself into national bankruptcy.....we have gone from being the greatest creditor nation to now being the largest debtor in the world," one pastor concluded.
The two pastors were both very adamant that they fear our country has gotten into the mood of free spending and fiscal irresponsibility.
I asked the bold question, could America fall and go the way of powerful nations and both pastors said this nations shocking financial status does not look good and they boldly from a religious standpoint indicated that God gave America its status, its territory and its resources and wealth to make us a powerful nation and that God has that power to remove these things from us.
Both pastors voiced strong opinion regarding Bible prophecy and said that America was founded on Godly principles but that the United States is sliding toward a national debacle and there are many warnings within the Bible that urge us to live our lives according to Godly principles.
These members of the clergy strongly urged our nation to return to economic discipline or face dire consequences.

"Little Lefty" Is On A Roll-Notches 24th

Sixty-eight year-old Monticello bowler John Hoffman is on a late season roll at Kiamesha Lanes.
After wondering if and when he would bowl another 300 game, the "Little Lefty" now has recorded two 300 games within a three week time span.
On March 30, in the Monday Men's league Hoffmann recorded his 24th career 300 game on lanes 15 and 16 using a Roto Grip Quest bowling ball.
His total for the night included a 300, 254, 243, 797 with a 6-7-10 split in the last frame of the third game costing him an 800 series. In the 300 game all 12 strikes were in the 1-2 pocket.
Three weeks ago on March 10 in the Tuesday Mixed Firemen's league at Kiamesha Lanes Hoffmann recorded his 23ed career 300.
Previous to that his last 300 game came on March 16, 2008 in the doubles event of the Tri-County NY United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Association tournament at Pin Street Lanes in Warwick.
His Monday night team is Coldwell Bankers with team mates Jim VanAken, Jason Jones and Tom Belgiovene.
Hoffmann recorded his first 300 game on July 23, 1991 in the Essex County New Jersey Association in the 420 DBLS. SMT league at Eagle Rock Lanes.
Hoffmann is a well-known technical bowler and when Mike Luongo, now the Northeast Regional Sales Manager for Storm and Roto Grip, drilled out the Roto Grip Quest ball for Hoffmann, Luongo noted to this columnist that "John has a real nice game."
John won the high average bowler honors with a 229 in the Tri-County NY USBC Association for the 2006-2007 season. He bowled professionally from 1990 to 1993 in the Northeast Regional Bowlers Professional Bowlers Association where he got his "Little Lefty" nickname from PBA Tour Bowler Tommy Delutz Jr.
Hoffmann was also the 2007 Tri-County NY USBC Senior's Champion and a New Jersey State Senior champion.
USBC and former ABC records have Hoffmann with eight 11-strikes in a row games, one 298 game, two 299 games and nine 800 plus series.
He presently maintains a 222 average in the Monday Men's league, a 224 in the Tuesday Mixed Fireman's league and a 219 in the Wednesday Men's league, all at Kiamesha Lanes. He also bowled in the Sunday Thunder 102 Mixed Fun league.
Three years ago he became a certified USBC coach and is considered an excellent teacher of the game.
Hoffmann has been bowling for some 52 years, is single and retired and lives in the South Woods Road area of the Town of Thompson.

Bowling Tip
By Mike Luongo

Bowlers: This week's column will answer a question many bowlers ask about side weight....will it make my ball hook?
The answer is no is will not make your bowling ball hook.
I have been fortunate to be able to spend some time with technical experts, and although we have suspected for quite some time, we now have the proof.
Two factors are needed to make a bowling ball hook.....friction and rotation. (Gravity is also needed but I think that we all understand that or we would all be floating around).
You could take a bowling ball with the strongest weight block on the market, the most aggressive cover, drill it maximum leverage, add all the weight you want, and use a big balance hole, but, if the bowler does not impact proper rotation, or if friction on the ball's path down the lanes is not there......the ball will just go straight.
Mike Luongo is technically certified through IBPSIA as a Pro Shop Operator and Master Instructor. He is also a Silver Level Coach with the USBC and is the Northeast Regional Sales Manager with the Storm and Roto Grip bowling Bowling Ball Company. Klatch Takes On The State Budget

With the economy as sad as it is our local Sullivan County coffee klatsch decided to bake up some extra home made donuts and brew our special brand of java as we attempted to examine the proposed New York State budget and why Governor David Paterson's rating continues to go from bad to worse.
It became very clear as we discussed and debated the state budget that there is no easy solution in the state's attempt to close what they are saying is a $17.7 billion dollar budget gap.
Several members of the klatsch were very vocal in their opposition to Gov. Patterson's ordering 8,900 state workers be laid off because unions refused concessions. After discussion on this subject we unanimously agreed that unions and everyone has to bite the bullet during these tough times and concessions are in order.
After pouring our second cup of coffee we unanimously agreed that the reason for Governor Patterson's rating going down hill is because the citizens of our state continue to believe the state is not going in the right direction and the governor is not doing a good job.
And what can we look for in the new state budget.......aid to public schools would increase about $1.1 billion....but several of our klatch members fear increases in local property taxes, taxes and fee increases including vehicle registration charges and increases in college tuition's, no more tax rebate checks to residents, but, the STAR and NYC Star credit will continue, we'll see a bigger bottle bill including a nickel deposit on bottled water.
Our klatch didn't support very much of the proposed state budget and agreed that the State of New York has gone through years of overspending and now more then ever must consider downsizing and consolidation.

Dean Shattuck Scores 813 Series

Monticello right-handed power bowler Dean Shattuck was nursing a sore elbow when he went bowling March 25 in the Wednesday Men's league at Kiamesha and so he slowed down his approach and changed to a less aggressive bowling ball........all of which resulted in him scoring his first ever 800 plus series.
Bowling on lanes 11 & 12 and using an AMF Ultra-C bowling ball Dean banged out scores of 269, 278, 266, 813. His team mates on his Lawn Doctors team include George Battle Jr., Frank Muller Jr., Allan Jones and Larry Berens.
Dean several years ago was a strong proponent of a shot change for the Wednesday Men's league at Kiamesha Lanes and the change did result in some bowlers seeing their averages drop because of a more difficult lane pattern. Those advocating the change in the oil pattern (or lane shot) said the former easy house pattern produced averages that were not real.
The lane pattern change also resulted in Shattuck changing balls and his style of bowling which on Janaury 30 , 2008 resulted in his third career 300 game.
Dean noted at the time that there was a need to change the oil pattern (or lane shot) because of the fact that the former easy house pattern produced averages that were not real. "We needed a truer shot pattern", Shattuck noted, and this now has resulted in fewer 200 plus averages.
As a result of the new Wednesday Men's "truer" shot pattern this forced Dean to change balls and his style of bowling. Previously he was a down and in shot maker and now he uses an out and in pattern.
His previous high series was a 792. He scored his second career 300 game on February 21, 2007 in the Wednesday Men's league at Kiamesha Lanes.
Dean is a member of the board of directors of the Tri-County NY USBC and this is the only league he bowls in.
Dean is married to Kelly and they have one daughter, Karla.
Employed as an electrician in Rockland County Dean also owns and operates his own electrical contracting business.

The Bowling Tip ; By Mike Luongo

Bowlers: This weeks tip will help you execute and repeat good shots by having your body set properly so that you can use the laws of physics to roll the ball and eliminate tension in your swing.
As I've mentioned in previous columns, too much upper body and head movement make it very difficult to repeat shots.
The purpose of the stance is to place the body in an athletic position, eliminate all unnecessary movements during the approach and reduce TENSION.
Resting forearms against the body, in the stance, will help reduce tension in the upper body.
How do we do this?
Here are the four steps in the proper order for setting posture.
1. Set the feet (toward your break-point).
2. Set your head (tilted over the ball).
3. Set your posterior (this is your balance point as you are swinging a heavy object).
4. Set the ball position close as noted above.
You are now in position to start a smooth approach. Maintain your body position and let the ball swing under your shoulder. You will find this easy to repeat shot after shot.
Note: Watch the PBA and note the body positions but keep in mind that your exact body position may vary to accommodate different physiology's. Also, if your Ball does not fit, it will be difficult to eliminate tension from your swing.
Mike Luongo is technically certified through IBPSIA as a Pro Shop Operator and Teacher. He is also a Silver Level Coach with the USBC and is also the Northeast Regional Sales Manager with the Storm and Roto Grip Bowling Ball Company. If you have a question or subject you would like covered, he can be reached at 341-1694 or via e-mail at mikespro@warwick.net

Jason Belmonte Wins His

First PBA Title In NY

Australia's Jason Belmonte became the first two-handed player in Professional Bowlers Association history to win a PBA Tour title when he upset top qualifier Michael Fagan of Patchoque, N.Y., 215-201, to win The Bowling Foundation Long Island Classic at AMF Babylon Lanes last Sunday afternoon.
Belmonte, 25, making his PBA Tour singles television debut, won $25,000 and an exemption to bowl on the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour during the 2009-10 season.
Belmonte developed his unusual style as a toddler growing up in his parents' bowling center in New South Wales, Australia, bowling with bowling balls that were too heavy to throw with one hand. By inserting the middle two fingers of his right hand into the ball, and using his left hand to guide and spin the ball, he is able to generate hooking power very few one-handed players can match.
The PBA Tour concludes its 50th anniversary season this week with the 66th Lumber Liquidators U.S. Open which gets underway Tuesday at Brunswick Zone Carolier in North Brunswick, N.J. Norm Duke of Clermont, Fla., is defending champion. ESPN will televise the 2-hour live finals on Sunday, April 5 at 1 p.m. ET

PBA Tour Introduces
PBA World Series of
Bowling Debuts in August

A new era in the Professional Bowlers Association will begin next season with the creation of the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour World Series of Bowling.
The Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour, currently celebrating its 50th Anniversary, announced the creation of the series today which will offer more than $2 million in prize money and will take place from Aug. 1-Sept. 7, 2009 in Detroit.
The kickoff PBA Motor City Open will take place at longtime PBA host center Taylor Lanes in Taylor, Mich., from Aug. 1-6. The remainder of the World Series of Bowling, including six exempt PBA Tour events, the return of the PBA Womens Series presented by USBC and a revamped PBA Senior Tour World Championship will be held at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich., just outside Detroit. The World Series of Bowling will culminate with the PBA World Championship open field event, the first major championship of the 2009-2010 season.
The PBA World Series of Bowling will mark the first time the PBA Tour will spend an extended period of time in one city. The event figures to be a financial boon for Detroit with hundreds of competitive bowlers from around the world, including the exempt PBA Tour stars such as Walter Ray Williams Jr., Pete Weber and reigning player of the year Chris Barnes expected to participate. Seven PBA Tour bowling telecasts emanating from the World Series will air on ESPN, bringing further exposure to the city of Detroit.
"The World Series builds on the proud tradition of the Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour being the standard in professional bowling worldwide,". said PBA Tour CEO and Commissioner Fred Schreyer. "Detroit will be host to the greatest festival of competitive bowling in history."
Detroit boasts more USBC certified bowlers than any other city in the U.S. Main host Thunderbowl Lanes is a 90-lane bowling center featuring a unique arena setup for the taping of the ESPN telecasts and continuous online coverage on the PBA Tour's live streaming video service Xtra Frame on pba.com.
"We are thrilled to host this revolutionary month in PBA Tour history," said Thunderbowl Lanes owner Tom Strobl. "Detroit's passionate bowling fans are in for a treat."
The seven PBA championship events with dedicated telecasts will be taped at the conclusion of the World Series and air out over what has traditionally been the first half of the PBA Tour season from mid-October to early December 2009, Sunday afternoons on ESPN. The first half of the season on ESPN will conclude with the live finals of the PBA World Championship on Dec. 13, featuring the four finalists decided in early September at the World Series.
The January-April second half of the PBA Tour season will be similar to the current Tour makeup, featuring live Sunday telecasts. The Tour will travel to at least 10 cities across the country for events, including three major championships (USBC Masters, PBA Tournament of Champions and concluding the regular season with the U.S. Open).
Tournament fields for the PBA Tour World Series will be increased from 64 to 72 players. Along with the 58 exempt players, international exemptions will be introduced and at least 10 tournament qualifying round positions will be available to win per event in Detroit.
The PBA Women's Series presented by USBC returns with seven events for the 2009-2010 PBA Tour season. Six will take place at the World Series, including all the PBA "animal pattern" championships and a newly created open-field PBA Women's Series World Championship. The field size for the Women's Series events will improve from 16 to 20 bowlers for each exempt event, and for the first time two TQR spots will be up for grabs for each women's event at the World Series.
The PBA Senior World Championship makes its return to the PBA schedule during the World Series. The championship match of the Senior World Championship will be televised, once again bringing senior tour bowling to ESPN.
While the PBA World Series of Bowling includes the greatest bowlers in the world and the ESPN shows are the centerpiece events, there will also be something for every competitive bowler in the form of side events with diverse formats. Some of the side events and sweepers, which will all be conducted by the PBA, will not include exempt PBA Tour pros.
"The message for now to all PBA members and competitive bowlers from the Midwestern U.S. to Malaysia is this," Schreyer said. "Save August 2009 on your calendar and start practicing."
Further details will be released on the PBA World Series of Bowling and the 2009-10 Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour season regularly. Stay tuned to pba.com.

"World Of Work" Let's Us Know Our Neighbors

The publisher, editor and staff of the Sullivan County Democrat are to be applauded for their dedication to informative journalism and in bringing us not only local news but features like the Business & Professional Women's edition and most recently the Men @ Work 09 edition.
There really isn't too much opportunity available for local residents to get to know who's who in our business world but each year this newspaper receives from its readers candidates to consider for its annual Men at Work issue.
A nomination committee picks the candidates who will be featured and staff members then go out and gather the background information and take pictures so that we all can get professionally and properly introduced to our local "World At Work."
I find it extremely interesting to read and learn about what a local bank accounting specialist does, the type of job the director of facilities does at Crystal Run Healthcare, what a local upscale painter does and how the director of special education at BOCES approaches his job.
Where else could I have learned the fascinating life story about Harold Russell and how he closed the deal to buy the former Max Yasgur farm. A highlight feature on Sullivan County Sheriff Mike Schiff and Undersheriff Eric Chaboty showed the importance of teamwork and the dedicated police work they are providing for the people of Sullivan County.
The story about Sergio Saravia and why he choose to be an immigration attorney touched my heart because he seeks to offer services to people who would otherwise be ignored or trampled upon.
David Seigerman at SCCC and George Sarvis in the Town of Fallsburg showed the importance of having responsible and dedicated professionals doing important work.
Richard Sush has always been an outstanding professional wherever he worked and it was good to read about him again.
The Men at Work issue introduced us to Fil Nieves and his strong belief in community banking and on our next trip to Honesdale I definitely want to stop and eat at the Trackside Gill owned and operated by Jeff Hiller and his wife Sue.
A great story about Joe Marinaro, house/facilities manager at Daytop Village of Swan Lake showed he knows what drug addiction is all about and he knows exactly where drug addicts are coming from which proves that those who have been there can really help others to recovery.
The back cover of the Men at Work edition truly showed the real life story of Jeffersonville chiropractor David Sager, how he became a chiropractor, took a chance in life and bought the former practice of Dr. Barry Bodenstein and how to treats his patients the same way he treats his wife and children and enjoys the time he spends with his patients.
We say thanks to this fine publication for bringing Men @ Work into our lives.
