Robert Fix III

Ralph Coney & Robert Fix III Score 300 Games

An accomplished veteran bowler and an up and coming teenager from a well-known bowling family recently recorded 300 games.
Forty-eight year-old lefty Ralph Coney scored his fifth career 300 on February 23 in the Friday Mixed league at Liberty Lanes.
Bowling for some 37 years, Coney has put his name in the record book with four 300 games and a high series of 784 over a period of the last 25 years.
On February 23 Ralph put together a 219, 300, 192, 711 series using a Brunswick Ultimate Inferno bowling ball. Of the 12 strikes Ralph noted that one of them was a light hit in the pocket.
In addition to the Friday Mixed league Ralph also bowls in the Wednesday Men's league and the Thursday Men's Doubles league, all at Liberty Lanes.
He currently maintains a 211 average and bowls with the Buck Satan & The 666 Shooter team in the Friday Mixed league.
A resident of the East Hill Road between Jeffersonville and Youngsville, Ralph is married with three children.
He is employed as an electrician with Ross Electric in Liberty.
In recognition of the 300 game Liberty Lanes presented Ralph with a 300 game jacket.
Eighteen-year-old Robert Fix III truly comes from a well-founded and established bowling family and the years of training and learning good bowling skills from his father and grandfather paid off recently in the Tri-County NY United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Association Open (Men's) tournament held at Callicoon Lanes.
Robert scored his first career 300 game on February 25 while bowling with Paul Tuttle, Derek Irwin and his cousin, Kyle Stevens, all members of the Thursday Men's Doubles league at Liberty Lanes.
Bowling for some 12 years, he used a Brunswick Fuse bowling ball in scoring this 300 game.
Robert's previous high game and series was a 202, 259, 247, 708 bowled on October 25, 2003 in the Saturday Morning Liberty Elks Teenage league at Liberty Lanes.
Fix presently maintains a 187 average in the Thursday Men's Doubles league.

Bowling Tip
By Mike Luongo

Bowlers: This weeks column will answer a question many bowlers ask about side weight.
Will it make my ball hook?
The answer is "absolutely no."
I have been fortunate to be able to spend some time with technical experts, and although we have suspected for quite some time, we now have the proof.
Two factors are needed to make a bowling ball hook......friction and rotation. (Gravity is also needed but I think that we all understand that or we would all be floating around.
You could take a bowling ball with the strongest weight block on the market, the most aggressive cover, drill it maximum leverage, add all the weight you want, and use a big balance hole, but, if the bowler does no impart proper rotation, or if friction on the ball's path down the lane is not there......the ball will go straight.
Mike Luongo is technically certified through IBPSIA as a Pro-Shop Operator and Teacher. He is also a Silver Level Coach with the USBC and is also the Northeast Technical Advisor for the Morich Bowling Ball Company (Morich Enterprises, Inc.) Mike is a member of the board of directors of the IBPSIA and is a member of the Brunswick Pro Shop Staff.
