GO BOWLING CELEBRATES NATIONAL BOWLING DAY ON AUG. 8, 2020
Bowling to be featured for fourth consecutive year on “FOX & Friends” national broadcast

ARLINGTON, Texas – The bowling industry will be celebrating National Bowling Day on Saturday, Aug. 8, and to commemorate the yearly celebration, the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America and its marketing arm, Strike Ten Entertainment, will launch a nationwide league bowling program called “Go Bowling America” to encourage consumers to come back to the lanes where centers have reopened and when they are ready to do so.

The “Go Bowling America” league program will provide bowlers of all age groups the opportunity to bowl in a multi-week, non-competitive league and receive a new entry-level bowling ball for completing the league.

Go Bowling has secured confirmation from “FOX & Friends” that it plans to feature bowling during the show’s broadcast on Aug. 8.  This year’s bowling segment will take place remotely, giving select bowling centers around the nation an opportunity to be featured during the live segment.

“The BPAA and Strike Ten are focused on helping the 3,400-plus member bowling centers during this incredibly tough time, and the exposure we receive from our partnership with FOX is a huge help and a great way to amplify our ‘Go Bowling America’ message,” said John Harbuck, President of Strike Ten Entertainment.  “Our ‘Go Bowling America’ league program is just one of the many ways we’re helping our member bowling centers welcome back bowlers to the same safe, healthy and fun experience they’re accustomed to as our centers reopen nationwide.”

STE and BPAA are fully supporting the National Bowling Day initiative. Digital marketing support materials are being created for all member centers to assist in promoting National Bowling Day by keeping bowling top of mind where centers are not yet open and to drive business where centers are open. These National Bowling Day digital marketing assets can be accessed for free from the Social Media Content Bank on STEMarketing.com

FOUNDERS TRIBUTE PREVIEW

MESA, Ariz. — The third stop on the 2020 “Road to the LPGA” takes the Symetra Tour to Longbow Golf Club in the Grand Canyon State for the inaugural Founders Tribute. The event is named in honor of the 13 women that established the LPGA in 1950 to pave the way for female golfers.

The Founders Tribute is the second tournament of the Symetra Tour’s return to play following a four-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship at Battle Creek Country Club in Battle Creek, Mich., from July 24-26, was the official restart to the 2020 season.

“FireKeepers Casino Hotel and the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi were honored to be the first stop back for the Symetra Tour and these professional women golfers,” said Kathy George, the Tournament Director and FireKeepers Casino Hotel CEO. “The protocols and back to play plan the Tour had in place, in conjunction with the FireKeepers Casino Hotel protocols, were very thorough and met all local CDC guidelines and state regulations. We are looking forward to following the players throughout the rest of the 2020 season starting with their next event in Arizona.”

The same back to play protocol will remain in effect for the Founders Tribute and is one of the many reasons Visit Mesa is excited to host the Symetra Tour. Mesa offers the opportunity to experience the beauty of the desert with all the comforts of home. Known as “City Limitless,” the geographic location of Mesa allows for majestic views of the Superstition Mountains, picturesque drives into Tonto National Forest and unforgettable experiences of local culture.

“Visit Mesa is extremely excited and honored to welcome back the Symetra Tour to Longbow Golf Club this August for the inaugural Founders Tribute,” said Suzanne Cecil, Director of Sports at Visit Mesa. “Mesa has a long history in hosting notable and highly competitive golf championships. We are confident that Symetra Tour athletes will be challenged by, yet relish their time on, a true desert course such as Longbow.”

Greeting the 144-player field in Mesa, Ariz., is a total purse of $125,000. Individuals are set to compete in a 54-hole stroke play format with a cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. The winner’s share for the event is $18,750.

University of Arizona alumna Krystal Quihuis (Tucson, Arizona) is eager to compete in her home state and is looking forward to playing the desert course where she has found success before.

“When the new tournament schedule came out, I was thrilled to see we had a tournament in my home state, especially at Longbow Golf Club,” said Quihuis. “I won the AJGA’s PING Heather Farr Classic in 2013 and it brings back great memories. I’m looking forward to playing in this prestigious event, and I am very excited to see my friends from the Tour in Arizona.”

Action gets underway at 7:00 a.m. MST all three days with play starting off No. 1 and No. 10 tees in each round. A trophy presentation on No. 18 green is set to follow final round play.

LPGA Foundation Awards First Renee Powell Grants during Drive On Championship

Five LPGA*USGA Girls Golf sites in Ohio will receive funding to grow the game and increase opportunities for Black girls

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., July 27, 2020 – The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Foundation announced today the first five recipients of the Renee Powell Grant. The grant program honors Renee Powell’s lifelong commitment to golf and will help assist current and prospective LPGA*USGA Girls Golf sites create partnerships and outreach opportunities with youth organizations serving Black girls.

An initial $25,000 in grant funding will be awarded to select LPGA*USGA Girls Golf programs actively operating in Ohio, Renee Powell’s home state. Sites were selected based on their geographic location, current LPGA*USGA Girls Golf membership demographics, and longstanding commitment to engaging Black girls in their program.

These five sites that will receive $5,000 in grant funding are:
•           LPGA*USGA Girls Golf at The First Tee of Central Ohio
•           LPGA*USGA Girls Golf at The First Tee of Lake Erie (Inverness & Brandywine)
•           LPGA*USGA Girls Golf of East Canton, OH
•           LPGA*USGA Girls Golf of Greater Cleveland
•           LPGA*USGA Girls Golf of Northwood Golf Academy

“I think this grant program might help to bring young girls, African American girls and other minorities into the game of golf and to show them that there are people who played before them and that it’s a great sport,” said Renee Powell, the second African American woman to ever play on the LPGA Tour. “We need to really do a little more to change the culture of what golf is all about, in particular growing our Girls Golf programs and being very inclusive.”

The LPGA Tour returns to play on July 31 at the Drive On Championship in Toledo, Ohio, the first event back in more than six months. While the season was put on hold, LPGA Tour players continued their energy and commitment to make a difference, including the mission to bring more Black girls into the game and honor Renee’s lifelong leadership in changing the face of golf.

“To us, [Drive On] means our personal and our organizational commitment to leave this game even better than we found it, to make golf even more enjoyable and inviting to all people in the future,” said LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan. “That’s why we hope you’ll join us at the LPGA*USGA Girls Golf program that is quite literally changing the face of the game and inviting more girls into this game than ever in the history of golf.”

Mike Davis, CEO of the USGA, added, "The USGA is honored to support this important effort to increase opportunities for girls from diverse backgrounds to have access to the game as part of our long-standing commitment to LPGA*USGA Girls Golf. The incredible work that the program does to break down barriers to participation is having a lasting impact on golf. It is fitting that Renee’s legacy as a fierce competitor and, more importantly, a champion for inclusion will live on forever through this grant.”

Thanks to the support of the golf industry’s recent Race Fore Unity efforts, The LPGA Foundation raised $50,000 toward the newly established Renee Powell Grant which will support LPGA*USGA Girls Golf programs that serve Black communities. Awarded through The LPGA Foundation and the LPGA Renee Powell Fund, grants will provide access, instruction, equipment and additional expenses required to be introduced to the game of golf and stay engaged with the sport. Through this effort, The LPGA Foundation will further its commitment to creating an engaging, safe, inclusive and diverse environment to empower, inspire and transform the lives of all women and girls through the game of golf.

“The ability to raise money for this new grant that LPGA*USGA Girls Golf is coming up with is so important,” said Cheyenne Woods, an LPGA*USGA Girls Golf alumna who is in the field this week. “Just to give all girls access to the sport that I know has given me so many opportunities, so many life lessons, and just increase diversity in the game. This new grant will help get Black girls into golf and truly give them equal opportunity to enjoy it and play consistently and truly build their love for the game like we all have.”

Renee Powell Grant funds will be directed towards financial aid for Girls Golf members community outreach, partnerships with local youth groups, securing golf course access, transportation to/from the golf course or facility, to increase staffing, and purchase of equipment. Along with the grant funding, LPGA will provide access to the LPGA’s cultural sensitivity training, assistance with connecting the Site Director with a local youth organization serving Black girls, branded items and giveaways for the Girls Golf Experience, lesson plans for the program, and at least one LPGA HQ representative to assist with Girls Golf Experience event planning.

Run in partnership by The LPGA Foundation and the United States Golf Association (USGA), LPGA*USGA Girls Golf is the only national program of its kind that specializes in providing a girl-friendly environment for juniors to play the game of golf. Girls Golf sites provide girls with quality golf instruction led by LPGA and PGA teaching professionals, teaching them valuable life skills along the way. In addition to empowering and inspiring girls, LPGA*USGA Girls Golf is on a continued mission to “Change the Face of the Game.”

"We're extremely thankful for the opportunities the Renee Powell Grant will give us in Northwest Ohio,” said Amanda Liford, Site Director of LPGA*USGA Girls Golf at The First Tee of Lake Erie located at Inverness Club, the host of this week’s Drive On Championship. “Every day, our world becomes more diverse and it's important to react in a way that is inclusive, respectful, and accepting. Golf has the ability to help girls expand their horizons and give them opportunities that they would not have otherwise.  The LPGA*USGA Girls Golf program does an amazing job at providing a place where girls can come together, make friends, have fun, and learn golf along the way.  With the Renee Powell Grant, our sites can provide more girls access to the game and the values that the LPGA*USGA Girls Golf Program has to offer, adding more classes throughout the year, expanding our partnership with Girl Scouts, and starting programs for girls at the Boys & Girls Club of Toledo.

“Thank you for giving us the opportunity to empower ALL girls in Northwest Ohio that they can do anything!"

YAGER WILL SIGN WITH ST. BONAVENTURE

JACOB YAGER GOING
TO ST. BONAVENTURE

GRAHAMSVILLE-- Three major factors --- his size, his mound presence and his bat speed, have won 16-year-old Tri-Valley Senior pitcher/third baseman Jacob Yager a place following high school graduation on the Division 1 St. Bonaventure University baseball team.
He will  turn 17 on August 7.
Yager, his family and Tri-Valley Secondary School Principal David Pulley, following a video conference with the Bonnies head baseball coach Larry Sudbrook last week gave a verbal commitment to attend St. Bonaventure starting in the fall of 2021. His course of study will be Environmental Science.
Coach Sudbrook said that "NCAA D1 rules do not allow me to comment on a student athlete until he has signed a National Letter of intent and that does not happen until November."
But Jacob's parents had previously been told that St. Bonaventure coaches liked Jacob's size, his presence on the mound and his bat speed.
Jacob some months ago spent some time at the Olean, NY campus and liked the size of the classes along with the baseball facilities and the coaching staff.
St. Bonaventure, located in the western part of New York State is a learning institution that houses more than 2000 students.
Founded in 1858 in the interest of promoting Catholic-Franciscan education, the university continues to this day to pursue academic excellence through personalized attention that reflects the Franciscan tradition of valuing human relationships.
In a written interview with Yager last week this talented high school baseball player said, "I got offered a full ride at St. Bonaventure and have verbally committed to this university."
He noted that his last high school game was played in June 2019 but "that the pandemic has not slowed things down as I have been steadily working on my hitting and pitching."
Yager works out as much as he can and also attends training in Newburgh twice a week.
A recent baseball showcase in Cortland allowed him to put up some good numbers with stats showing that he was pitching his fast ball at 83 to 85 miles per hour and his bat speed (exit batting velocity) was 103 miles per hour .... and he has his senior high school year to increase both stats.
When his senior year baseball starts he plans on playing third and first base and pitching.
This summer he plans on playing as many tournament games as possible with his Fishkill travel team and "I have already played some good teams that have big college players in their lineups."
At St. Bonaventure coaches have told Yager they want him to pitch every five days and when not pitching  playing first base, hitting someplace in the top of the batting order or sometimes being the designated hitter.
His college head coach is veteran 36-year mentor Larry Sudbrook who over his vast career has helped many players into the major leagues.
St. Bonaventure competes in the NCAA Atlantic 10 Conference against conference members including Davidson College, Duquesne University, LaSalle University, Saint Joseph's University and the University of Virginia.
Competition for Yager over the past several years included tryouts at the age of 15 where he competed in the USA 16 and under competition and out of 458 players he had the honor of being placed in the "Elite 30" category and came close to the cut while being named Player Of The Day during competition.
Because of his performance in the Florida USA games Jacob was asked to return to USA trials at the NYS Institute in Old Westbury, LI where his baseball skills awarded him the honor to compete with the 16 and under USA Northeast Team in Cary, NC.
As far as his previous competition with  USA Baseball, Yeager indicated "there's nothing going on now with USA Baseball because of the pandemic."
USA Baseball, with support from Major League Baseball, has generated a Long Term Athlete Development plan (LTAD) to provide a multi-stage developmental pathway for an individual's life-long experience within the sport of baseball in the United States.
Yager has committed himself to the USA Baseball mission which is not just about baseball but includes communities and people and that baseball is a vehicle for change and empowerment and is an experience that provides adversity, success and most of all fun.
The USA Baseball tryouts are for the purpose of identifying potential players as prospects for professional baseball and to select players for the Northeast Teams and it is not a college showcase.
At the National Team Championships in West Palm Beach, Fla. several years ago Team Freedom left fielder Jacob Yager was named Player of the Day and hit 2-for-2 with a  home run, double, scored two runs and tallied three RBI's in Team Freedom's effort against the Dallas Tigers.
In USA competition Yager pitched and played first base.
Yager's summer vacation has consisted so far of him playing baseball for the Cadets Baseball Academy/Arsema 17u team in Fishkill and during competition last weekend at the Perfect Game tournament in Piscataway, NJ Yager in the first game of the tournament he played first base and hit a homerun, single and was walked.
Pro scouts from the Yankees, Red Sox and Mariners have been keeping a close look at Jacob during summer competitions and if it comes down to being offered a chance to go into minor or major league baseball St. Bonaventure has told Jacob they would not stand in his way for him signing a contract.
His major travel team during summer months at the Cadets Baseball Academy is coached by Angel Lugo, a former major league player with the Cleveland Indians.
One of the highlights of Jacob's summer baseball career took place last summer July 19-21 in the 28-team Firecracker Saratoga Springs Showcase Tournament.
Jacob pitched five innings in the game to determine what team would play for the championship and with Yager's eight strike outs and giving up only four hits his team won.
In the championship game Sunday July 21  with the score tied 2-2 in the eighth inning and no outs and with players on second and third Yager smashed a line drive shot  on the first pitch over the center fielders head to score the winning run earning him the Tournament MVP award.
Formerly a two-sport athlete (baseball and basketball) at Tri-Valley  Yager made the decision last winter to not play basketball but instead participated in a Velocity and Weight Training Program offered by Cadets Baseball Academy coach Angel Lugo.
Last summer Yager's summer league baseball produced a 400 plus batting average while his stats for the 2019 Tri-Valley Bears league schedule showed him with a 519 batting average, a total of 26 RBI's and five home runs. He pitched 41 innings, had an Earned Run Average of 0.51 and a total of 75 strikeouts.
His pitching routine includes a fastball ranging in speeds from 83 to 85 mph, a curve, slider and change-up.

The blur of the bat in Jacob Yager's bat swing clocked at 103 miles per hour is the kind of stuff St. Bonaventure University liked when viewing Yager in videos and baseball showcases.

Michelle Wie West Named Assistant Captain for 2021 USA Solheim Cup Team
2014 U.S. Women’s Open champion is a five-time veteran of Team USA
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., July 23, 2020 – U.S. Solheim Cup captain Pat Hurst has selected major champion and five-time Team USA member Michelle Wie West as an assistant captain for the 2021 Solheim Cup. Wie West will join the previously announced Angela Stanford to work alongside Hurst when Team USA faces off with Team Europe at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, on Sept. 4-6.
“Naming Michelle as an assistant captain was an incredibly easy decision for me,” said Hurst. “She reached out to see if she could be involved with the team, and I quickly knew that I wanted her as one of my assistants. She’s out there playing with the younger players, and since I’ve been off the Tour for a while, that’s a crucial asset for me to have, first with Angela and now with Michelle. I can’t wait to work with this team as we look forward to our week at Inverness Club next year.”
“When I heard that Pat had been named the captain for Team USA, I immediately knew that I had to be part of her team,” said Wie West. “Pat was my POD leader when we played in Germany and Iowa and I learned so much from her leadership and friendship. Those weeks were great opportunities to learn from one of the best players and coaches I know, and to work alongside her is going to be an amazing experience.”
Wie has been a member of the LPGA Tour since 2009. She has five LPGA Tour victories, including a major title at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open. She has competed in five Solheim Cups, representing the USA in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. She went an undefeated 3-0-1 in her Solheim Cup debut in 2009, when she became just the second LPGA Tour rookie in history to play on Team USA. Wie West also represented the USA at the 2018 UL International Crown.
“My five times playing for Team USA at the Solheim Cup and wearing the Red, White and Blue – those are incredible highlight moments in my career,” said Wie West. “This next step as an assistant captain is going to be yet another highlight moment, and I’m so grateful to Pat for giving me this opportunity. Our week in Toledo next year is going to be an absolute blast.”
Prior to joining the LPGA Tour, Wie West enjoyed a standout amateur career that saw her capture the 2003 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship at age 13. The same year, she became the youngest amateur to make the cut at an LPGA Tour event when she reached the weekend at the ANA Inspiration, a record that still stands.
Wie West is a 2012 graduate of Stanford University with a degree in Communications, earning her degree while playing full-time on the LPGA Tour. She recently joined Hurst as one of the #LPGAMoms on Tour, giving birth to daughter Makenna on June 19, 2020.
With a full week of action at the 2021 Solheim Cup, fans can purchase various ticket and hospitality packages to enjoy every activity in Toledo at Inverness Club. New in 2021 is the Solheim Pavilion, which will give ticketholders a 300-degree view of the surrounding holes, upgraded food and beverage options and much more. Information on ticket options and prices is available at SolheimCupUSA.com.
