RailRiders Rally Past Chiefs for Fifth Straight
Nick Swisher Drives in Go-Ahead Run with Double in the Sixth
Moosic, Pa. –
The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) earned their fifth
straight win by coming from two runs down
to score a 5-3 triumph over the Syracuse Chiefs on Friday night at PNC
Field. SWB improved to 6-2 with the win while the Chiefs slipped to 4-3.
Diego
Moreno (2-0) took home the win after holding the Chiefs scoreless for
two innings. Conor Mullee retired the final batter to earn his first
Triple-A save. Sam Runion
(0-1) allowed three runs, one earned, on five hits in two innings of
relief.
Matt
Skole gave the Chiefs their only lead in the first inning by stroking a
two-run double off starter Anthony Swarzak into right-center. Trea
Turner and Scott Sizemore
both scored on the play.
SWB
got a quick response in the home half against Chiefs starter Paolo
Espino when Aaron Judge launched a line drive over the right-field fence
for his first home run
of the season.
Syracuse
led 2-1 into the last of the fifth when the RailRiders tied things up.
Donovan Solano singled with one away and moved to second after Chris
Parmelee drew a
walk. Pete Kozma roped a grounder inside the bag at third to plate
Solano for the tie.
Swisher
put SWB out front to stay in the sixth when he doubled home Judge on a
smash to right-center. Solano followed with a single to bring around
Swisher for a 4-2
advantage. Rob Refsnyder capped the home team’s scoring in the seventh
on a hit to score Ben Gamel from second.
Turner
tallied the Chiefs’ final run with a single that brought home Caleb
Ramsey before Mullee fanned Brendan Ryan to end the game.
The RailRiders and Chiefs meet an
early evening tilt on Saturday at PNC Field. The “Yankees Legends
Series” continues with a special appearance by Mickey Rivers. Creed
Bratton from
The Office will also be on hand to throw out a first
pitch. Game time is set for 4:05 p.m. The Chiefs will send right-hander
A.J. Cole to the mound. A starter for SWB has not been announced. For
