B-METS WIN 4-0

Defense Shines in Taylor-Made Win, 4-0
ERIE, PA – Spot-starter Logan Taylor tossed four scoreless innings and the Binghamton Mets defense supplied several strong plays in a 4-0 win over the Erie SeaWolves on Sunday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park. Four Binghamton pitchers combined to complete Binghamton’s first shutout and secure their first series win of the season.
Binghamton gave Taylor an early lead against Erie starter Austin Kubitza. Following a pair of walks to open the game, Niuman Romero threaded an RBI single up the middle. In the third, Derrik Gibson collected his first RBI as a B-Met by ripping a double into the right-field alley. Matt Oberste kicked Binghamton’s lead to three by pelting the left-field wall with an RBI double.
Taylor opened his first Double-A start with a four-pitch walk, but erased the blemish by picking Gustavo Nunez off. The righty worked around a one-out single by Alberto Gonzalez to post a scoreless inning.
With an early lead, Taylor settled in and rolled through the SeaWolves lineup. Romero provided two consecutive sparkling defensive plays at third to guide the B-Met starter through a perfect second inning. In the third, Colton Plaia helped by gunning down Connor Harrell at second base on an attempted steal. Taylor closed his day with a perfect fourth.
Binghamton’s defense came through again in the fifth. Jason Krizan laced a single off the left-field wall against Mike Hepple. Jared King barehanded the carom and fired a one-hopper to second in time to nab Krizan to end the inning.
Hepple wiggled out of a jam by stranding two in the sixth. Beck Wheeler tossed a perfect seventh and escaped unharmed after allowing the first two batters to reach in the eighth. Akeel Morris closed Binghamton’s fourth win in five games with a perfect ninth.
Hepple (1-0) allowed one hit over two scoreless innings in the official scorer-awarded win. Taylor struck out three in four innings and took the no-decision. Kubitza (1-1) allowed three runs on five hits over four innings in the loss.
The B-Mets (5-3) continue their first road trip of the season on Monday night in Akron where they open a three-game series against the RubberDucks at 6:35 PM.
