LAST TIME OUT : The B-Mets held New Hampshire to three hits and Jeff McNeil went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, powering Binghamton to a 2-1 Opening Day win on Friday. Robert Gsellman struck out seven and Logan Taylor notched the win with a strikeout in one shutout inning.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Tyler Pill will make his 30th
career start with the B-Mets as 2016 marks the fourth season in which
he has pitched for Binghamton. Pill made six starts at the Double-A
level in 2015, going 6-0 with a 2.08 ERA. He spent the majority of the
season in Las Vegas (AAA) where he tallied a 2-7 mark with a 7.45 ERA.
Pill is 16-6 with a 3.89 ERA lifetime with Binghamton.
NEW HAMPSHIRE STARTER: LHP John Anderson begins
his third season in New Hampshire, having made 28 of his 30 appearances
in 2015 with the Fisher Cats. In 28 games and 20 starts he notched a
6-6 record with an ERA of 4.62 for New Hampshire. Anderson briefly
pitched for Buffalo (AAA), delivering three innings in two appearances
with a 9.00 ERA in the final week of the season. He also spent the
entirety of 2014 with the Fisher Cats and worked primarily out of the
bullpen with a 3-3 record and a 4.59 ERA in 27 games and six starts
PILLS ARE GOOD: B-Mets starter Tyler Pill
has gone unbeaten in his last 22 regular season Double-A starts. Pill
is 15-0 during the stretch. His last loss in a B-Mets jersey during the
regular season came on May 5, 2014 when he fell to the Fisher Cats in
Manchester. Pill took the loss in his only postseason start with the
B-Mets last season.
ALMOST HIS FIRST OF THE YEAR: B-Mets first baseman Dominic Smith
nearly had his first double of the season on Friday night. Smith dumped
a hit into the left-field corner and cruised to second in the 6th
inning, but was called out on appeal for failing to touch first base.
Smith led the Florida State League in doubles last season with 33.
AKEEL HAS THE FEEL: B-Mets closer Akeel Morris
fired a perfect ninth inning Friday night and earned his first career
Double-A save. The righty racked up 13 saves with St. Lucie (High-A) in
2015.
WELCOME TO DOUBLE-A: Logan Taylor
tossed a scoreless inning of relief on Friday night and earned the win,
his first at Double-A. Taylor led St. Lucie (High-A) with eight wins
last season in his first full season back from Tommy John surgery.
MATINEE AFFAIR: The B-Mets and Fisher Cats match up for the first day game of the season. Binghamton went 16-13 in day games in 2015.
POWER SURGE: After adding 25 pounds of muscle in the offseason, Jeff McNeil drove
in both Binghamton runs in Friday night’s 2-1 win over New Hampshire.
McNeil belted his fifth career home run and his first at Double-A,
doing so on his 24th birthday
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue the homestand with the first of a three-game series vs Harrisburg at 6:35 PM on. LHP Kyle Regnault will start against Harrisburg’s RHP Austen Williams.
