B-METS LOSE 8-1

New Hampshire Sails by Binghamton, 8-1
BINGHAMTON, NY – Fisher Cat left-fielder Dwight Smith Jr. drove in a career-best four runs and the New Hampshire bullpen combined for five scoreless innings of relief to defeat the Binghamton Mets, 8-1, on Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium.
New Hampshire started fast when Roemon Fields doubled to lead off the game. He later scored on an RBI ground out by Smith, giving the Fisher Cats a 1-0 lead.
It remained 1-0 until the fourth as Dom Smith led off the frame with a single to right. Matt Oberste followed with a double to left-center, scoring Smith from first to even the score at one.
The Fisher Cats blew it open in the fifth inning when Tyler Pill began to struggle with his command. With two on and two out, Pill walked Fields to load the bases then issued a free pass to Jon Berti, allowing Jorge Saez to score from third. Dwight Smith Jr. followed with a two-run single to center, scoring Fields and Jorge Flores to put New Hampshire ahead 4-1.
New Hampshire padded its lead in the sixth with K.C. Hobson scoring on an RBI double from Saez and Shane Opitz coming home on a sacrifice fly from Flores. The Fisher Cats added one more in the seventh as Jon Berti was plated on a Hobson sacrifice fly and extended their lead to 8-1 when Ian Parmley scored on a fielder’s choice groundout from Dwight Smith Jr. Smith set a new career-high with four RBI in a 2-for-5 outing.
Oberste went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead the B-Mets offense. New Hampshire starter John Anderson did not factor in decision after tossing four innings with four strikeouts and one run allowed on five hits and three walks. Murphy Smith (1-0) picked up the win with one strikeout over two perfect innings.
