The ‘Pigs Strike Back
Sanchez Goes 2-for-5, Doubles in a Run
Allentown, Pa.
– The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) dropped a rubber match
to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies) on Thursday
morning, 5-3. The RailRiders (13-12) got a pair of hits including an RBI
double from MLB rehabber Gary Sanchez, but saw their series
winning streak stall at four. The IronPigs (14-12) took a series from
the RailRiders for the first time in the last 14 meetings (including
playoffs) since sweeping a three-game set in Allentown from June 29-July
2, 2015.
Down 1-0, the RailRiders took the lead in the second thanks to RBI doubles by Sanchez and Clint Frazier.
The IronPigs made
their push in the middle innings. Tied 3-3 in the sixth, RBI hits by
Dylan Cozens and Nick Williams tilted the game to the hosts to stay.
The RailRiders’ only other run came on Dustin Fowler’s single in the fifth.
SWB starter Brady Lail (1-2)
suffered the loss. Former RailRider Pat Venditte (1-0) got the win for
the IronPigs in relief while Pedro Beato bolted down his fifth save.
The RailRiders return home on Friday, May 5 to host the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals) at 6:35 p.m. Southpaw Caleb Smith (0-0, 3.93)
will get the nod against Syracuse right-hander Greg Ross (1-1, 5.40).
The Glow-in-the-Park Friday will also sport celebrations for Cinco de
Mayo. For tickets or more information, please call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
