PBA50 Tour Heads to Farmingdale, N.Y. for
Johnny Petraglia BVL Open May 6-9
Tournament weekend to kick off with “Clash of Legends” live on Xtra Frame May 6 at 6 p.m. EDT
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. –
The PBA50 Tour travels to Farmingdale, N.Y., for the fourth stop of the
2017 season when Farmingdale Lanes hosts the 2017 Johnny Petraglia BVL
Open presented by Brunswick May 6-9.
As
part of a dominant season in 2016 in which he earned his second
consecutive PBA50 Player of the Year crown, defending champion Pete
Weber beat Brian LeClair of Delmar, N.Y., 223-204, in the title match for a record-tying third consecutive PBA50 Tour title. He went on to win a record fourth consecutive PBA50 Tour title three weeks later in the Suncoast PBA Senior U.S. Open.
After
finishes of 21st and ninth in his first two tournaments this season,
Weber will have another goal in mind when he defends his title in
Farmingdale, and that will be to win his 100th career tournament in PBA
competition which includes titles in PBA Tour, PBA50 Tour, PBA Regional
and PBA50 regional events.
The
Johnny Petraglia BVL Open is named after the PBA legend and Vietnam
veteran who has won 14 PBA Tour and eight PBA50 Tour titles. The
70-year-old Hall of Famer will also be competing in this year’s event,
which also is a significant fundraising event for BVL. In two previous
years, the event has raised more than $100,000 of the BVL (Bowlers to
Veterans Link) Fund which provides veterans and active duty personnel
with recreational and therapeutic programs and services to improve their
quality of life.
The
tournament will kick off with a special “Clash of Legends” event
Saturday night at 6 p.m. EDT that will feature Petraglia and Weber in
addition to fellow Hall of Famers Walter Ray Williams Jr., Parker Bohn
III and Amleto Monacelli. Each Hall of Famer will compete on one
of five teams that will represent each military branch (Army, Air Force,
Navy, Marines and Coast Guard).
Competition
begins with eight games of qualifying on Sunday, May 7, beginning at 8
a.m. which will be followed by another eight-game round on Monday, May
8. A
final casher’s round of qualifying takes place Tuesday morning, May 9
and will be followed by two rounds of match play which will determine
the top five players who will advance to the stepladder finals at 7 p.m.
The practice session will be held from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 6 and
pro-am squads are scheduled for noon, 3:30 and 7:30 p.m.
Spectator
