Choi Plates Four, RailRiders Steamroll Chiefs
Caleb Smith Grabs First Triple-A Victory

The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) kept their offense red
hot on a cold, damp Friday evening at PNC Field, routing the Syracuse
Chiefs 10-2. The RailRiders improved to 14-12 on the year and have won
14 of the last 18 meetings with the Chiefs (9-15).
Caleb Smith (1-0)
tossed his first quality start with SWB to pick up his first Triple-A
victory. The southpaw fanned a Triple-A career-best seven hitters while
allowing only two runs on three hits across six innings. Kyle McGowin
(0-2) was hit for six runs and seven hits in his 3.2 innings of work. He
walked three and struck out four.
The RailRiders scored the final 10 runs of the game. Ji-Man Choi tallied four RBI, including three on a bases-loaded double as part of a five-run fourth. Mark Payton finished a triple shy of the cycle. His seventh-inning homer was his first at in Triple-A.
Dustin Fowler extended
his hitting streak to nine games with his International League-leading
fourth triple in the third inning. He finished the night 2-for-5. Tyler Wade also finished 2-for-5 and doubled in the eighth. Clint Frazier reached for times thanks to a pair of singles and two walks. Frazier also drove in two.
The
2016 Gildan Triple-A National Champion RailRiders continue their
weekend series against the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals) on
Saturday at 4:05 p.m. from PNC Field. Right-hander Bryan Mitchell makes his season debut with SWB and is scheduled to face right-hander Joe Ross (0-1, 3.72). The first 2,500 fans through the gates will receive a jersey card of 2016 International League MVP Ben Gamel.
