Eddy Rodriguez Clubs Homer in Victory
RailRiders Snap Five-Game Slide at McCoy Stadium
Pawtucket, R.I. – The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) rode a towering two-run homer by Eddy Rodriguez to
a 5-2 triumph over the host Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox) on
Wednesday afternoon. The RailRiders (16-14) halted a five-game losing
skid at McCoy Stadium going back to last season. The PawSox (15-14) lost
for just the second time in eight games.
Rodriguez’s
majestic blast, his first of the year, came in the second inning against
starter Henry Owens. Pawtucket responded with a two-out run-scoring
double from Sam Travis in the home half of the frame.
SWB then posted a picket fence in the middle innings thanks to a Mason Williams sac fly, Ji-Man Choi’s RBI single and a wild pitch that opened the door for Williams to scoot home.
Starter Caleb Smith (2-0) allowed one run on three hits and two walks over five innings for his second win in as many starts. Tyler Jones recorded the game’s final out for his first save. Owens (3-1) took the loss.
The
road trip shifts to Syracuse with the first of four against the Chiefs
(Washington Nationals) getting underway at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday
evening. SWB’s Bryan Mitchell (0-0, 3.00) is scheduled to face Kyle McGowin (0-2, 9.39). The
RailRiders return home on Monday, May 15 to host the PawSox at 6:35
p.m. The Dollar Dog Monday sports $1 lawn tickets, $1 hot dogs and fans
can bring their pup to the ballpark for just $1. For tickets or more information, please call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
