Rodriguez Blasts Grand Slam for Instant Victory
Eddy Rodriguez Belts Game-Winning Homer in 12th
Moosic, Pa. –
The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) dealt the knockout
punch in the last of the 12th on Monday night at PNC Field. Eddy Rodriguez
tattooed a grand slam over the left-center wall to vault the RailRiders
(19-16) past the Pawtucket Red Sox 8-4. The PawSox (15-18) have lost
five straight.
Ernesto Frieri (2-0)
took home the win thanks to Rodriguez’s heroics. The right-hander fired
three scoreless innings, allowing one hit, a walk and he struck out
three. Tyler Jones tossed three perfect frames and whiffed five.
The RailRiders loaded the bases in the 12th against Chandler Shepherd (0-2). Cito Culver worked a one-out walk and moved to third on consecutive hits by Mason Williams and Mark Payton. Right-hander Brandon Workman relieved Shepherd and yielded the game-winner to Rodriguez on a 2-1 pitch.
Trailing 4-3, a bloop double by Dustin Fowler into shallow left allowed Tyler Wade
to score the tying run in the ninth and forced extras. Fowler finished
4-for-5 and a home run shy of the cycle. His seventh-inning triple was
his Minor League-leading seventh of the year.
Wade went 2-for-4
with his second home run of the year. With two walks, he reached four
times and scored thrice. He also stole his 12th base of the year to lead
all of Triple-A.
Mason Williams finished the night 3-for-5 and drove in a run as well.
