Cessa Mows Down 11, SWB Wins Third Straight
Davis Belts Two Home Runs, Drives In Four
Moosic, Pa.
– The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) rolled to their
seventh straight win at PNC Field on Friday night, beating the Syracuse
Chiefs 5-1. The RailRiders (70-43) have won four straight against the
Chiefs (51-62) and three uninterrupted overall.
Luis Cessa
(6-3) struck out 11 over Triple-A, career-long 7.2 innings while
yielding a solo home run to Brian Goodwin in the first inning. All told,
he scattered five hits and walked one. The 11 strikeouts fell one shy
of his career high. Jonathan Holder retired the final four hitters to earn his second save with SWB.
The
RailRiders scored four runs off Chiefs starter Paolo Espino (6-10). The
right-hander surrendered eight hits across seven innings. He struck out
nine without issuing a walk.
SWB responded quickly after Goodwin’s first inning homer. Ben Gamel began the home half with a single to center. Clint Frazier then cracked a double off the left-field wall to bring around Gamel. With one away, Ike Davis crushed a two-run shot out to right for a 3-1 lead.
Gamel
opened the fifth with an opposite-way double. He swiped third with one
out for his team-leading 18th stolen base of 2016. Davis came through
again with two outs, grounding a run-scoring single to center.
Davis
capped his big night with a towering homer to straightaway center off
reliever Erik Davis in the eighth. The blast marked his first multi-home
run game since April 19, 2013, as member of the New York Mets.
The RailRiders go for the series win against the Syracuse Chiefs on Saturday, August 6, at PNC Field. Right-hander Brady Lail
(4-3, 3.67) faces right-hander Lucas Giolito (1-0, 3.09). Keystone
