Knapp Named League Pitcher of the Week
BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton Met starter Ricky Knapp has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week. In two starts during the week (August 22-28), the Florida native struck out 16 over 16.0 innings and tossed a nine-inning complete game.On August 23 against the Hartford Yard Goats, Knapp fired one of the best performances of the season by a B-Met. He struck out a career-high 10, allowed just three hits, and went wire-to-wire in the first nine-inning complete game by a B-Met since July 2015. Knapp struck out seven over seven innings in a losing effort on Sunday afternoon against Bowie.
Drafted by the Mets in the 8th round in 2013, Knapp has pitched at the three highest levels in the Mets Minor League system this season. In his time with Binghamton, St. Lucie (High-A) and Las Vegas (AAA), he has gone 13-6 with a 2.56 ERA over 24 games (23 starts).
Knapp is the third B-Met to receive weekly league honors this season. Rafael Montero was named Pitcher of the Week in early August and Phillip Evans was recognized as the top player last week.
Knapp and the B-Mets (61-71) open a four-game series against the Curve in Altoona at 6:00 PM on Monday. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting a 5:45 PM on News Radio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
