Smith, Rosario Buoy B-Mets in 6-3 Win
BINGHAMTON, NY-
Rafael Montero struck out six over seven shutout innings, Amed Rosario
and Dominic Smith belted back-to-back home runs and the Binghamton Mets
defeated the Hartford Yard Goats, 6-3, Monday night at NYSEG Stadium.Binghamton got things started in the bottom of the first as Champ Stuart singled and stole second. Rosario then singled him to third and Stuart scored on a sacrifice fly from Smith. In the next at bat, Rosario took off for second base and slid in safely as Jan Vazquez’s throw skipped into center. Rosario then broke for third and rounded it as Noel Cuevas bobbled the ball in center. Rosario scored on the play and the B-Mets took a 2-0 lead.
The B-Mets would add to their advantage thanks to back-to-back home runs. With one out in the inning, Rosario belted a home run deep to left, his second as a B-Met. Smith followed by blasting a homer to right-center to make it 4-0.
Montero (4-2) was strong over seven shutout innings to pick up the win. He allowed five hits, struck out six and retired nine of the last ten batters he faced.
Hartford clawed back into it in the eighth against Tim Peterson. Juan Ciriaco led off with a doubled and later scored as Rosell Herrera reached on a fielder’s choice groundout. Ashley Greater then smacked a double to right-center that brought in Herrera. Vazquez followed with a single to right and Greater slid in just ahead of the throw from Victor Cruzado, cutting the lead to 4-3.
Binghamton got a little breathing room in the eighth, beginning when Rosario walked and Smith singled him to second. Cruzado then smoked a double to right, scoring Rosario. Later, Matt Oberste worked a pinch-hit, bases loaded walk that allowed Smith to score and put the B-Mets ahead, 6-3.
David Roseboom struck out a pair in a 1-2-3 inning to earn his 12th save.
Smith finished 3-for-3 with a homer, a double and two RBI and Rosario went 2-for-3 with three runs, a stolen base and a home run.

POSTGAME NOTES: Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning, the third time this season the B-Mets had gone back-to-back. Matt Oberste and Dominic Smith hit two sets of back-to-back homers on July 2 in game one of a doubleheader against New Hampshire…Phillip Evans went 0-for-4, snapping his five-game streak of three hits or more.
