REYES GOES 2 FOR 5

Home Runs Highlight Doubleheader Split
BINGHAMTON, NY- The Binghamton Mets used four home runs to cruise by the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 9-2, in game one of the doubleheader before falling by a final on 12-5 in game two, Saturday night from NYSEG Stadium. Jose Reyes went a combined 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs as he played game one at third base and was the designated hitter in game two.
Game One:
Binghamton got on the board quickly. Dominic Smith hammered a two-out two-run homer to center and Matt Oberste followed with a solo shot to right center. The B-Mets recorded back-to-back home runs for the first time this season and led 3-0.
The power surge continued in the third. With two outs and one on, Smith launched a two-run bomb that cleared the video board in right center. In the ensuing at bat, Oberste cranked one to left center that pelted a moving train rolling by in the railyard beyond the outfield wall. The second set of back-to-back bombs gave Binghamton a 6-2 advantage.
Oberste and Stefan Sabol each turned in sacrifice flies in the fifth to push the lead to 8-2.
In his first career Double-A start, Ricky Knapp held New Hampshire to two runs on four hits over seven innings. Knapp (1-0) picked up the win with the third complete game for the B-Mets this season, retired 13 of the last 14 he faced and did not allow a hit past the third.
Smith added to his tally with an RBI single that scored Reyes in the sixth. He finished game one 4-for-4 with two homers, five RBI and three runs scored.
Game Two:
New Hampshire hung four runs in the first inning off of Tyler Herron, who made his Mets organizational debut. The Fisher Cats put up six more in the fourth, five of which were charged to Herron (0-1). He lasted three and 2/3 innings and struck out five but allowed ten runs, eight earned, on ten hits for the loss.
New Hampshire’s six runs in the sixth were the most the B-Mets have allowed in an inning this season. The seven hits were also a season-high by a Binghamton opponent.
Binghamton got one in the first as Amed Rosario bounced into a fielder’s choice that scored Reyes. In the third, Kyle Johnson blasted a two-run home run to left, cutting the deficit to 5-3.
The B-Mets would plate their final two runs on a Derrik Gibson two-run double in the fifth.
Rosario went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs in game one to extend his hitting streak to ten games but was 0-for-3 in game two to snap it. Johnson went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a homer to lead the B-Mets offense.
The six-game series concludes with a 6:35 PM first pitch on Sunday. RHP Josh Zeid will start for the B-Mets against LHP Shane Dawson for the Fisher Cats. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting a 6:20 PM on News Radio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
