RailRiders Make History in Doubleheader Sweep of Buffalo
Luis Cessa Fires Complete Game Shutout in Game Two
Moosic, Pa.
– The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) swept a twin bill
against the Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday night at PNC Field and broke a
franchise record while doing so. The RailRiders (66-38) have won five
straight overall and are 9-1 in their last 10 games against the Bisons
(52-52). Buffalo has lost seven in a row overall.
The
RailRiders blanked the Bisons 3-0 in game two. The 16th shutout of the
season established a new franchise record, surpassing the 15 such
victories by the SWB Red Barons in 2003. Luis Cessa (5-2) fired a complete game and held Buffalo to four hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out four.
SWB scored all three runs off Bisons’ starter Scott Diamond (6-10) in the first inning. Gary Sanchez singled home Mason Williams and Donovan Solano plated two with a bouncing single to center.
Sanchez
was an instrumental part of the RailRiders scoring the win in the first
game. Tied 2-2 in the last of the eighth, Sanchez thundered his second
double of the tilt off the wall in right-center. He moved to third on a
wild pitch and scored when catcher Wilkin Castillo’s throw got by third
and into left field on the same play. The win was their fourth straight
one-run final before the nightcap triumph.
Diego Moreno (6-1) took the home win after tossing a perfect top of the eighth. Dustin Antolin (2-3) shouldered the loss. Vicente Campos worked around eight hits and held the Bisons to one run across eight hits in his Triple-A debut with SWB.
The RailRiders go for the series sweep of the Buffalo Bisons on Wednesday afternoon. Right-hander Brady Lail
(3-2, 3.67) is scheduled to oppose right-hander Casey Lawrence (2-2,
4.58). It’s a Business Person Special day at PNC Field and first pitch
is set for 12:05 p.m. For tickets or more information, please call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
