RAILRLIDERS WIN OVER ROCHESTER

Cessa Leads SWB to Series Win over Rochester
Ben Gamel Extends Hitting Streak to 11 Games

Moosic, Pa. – The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) edged the Rochester Red Wings 2-1 on Saturday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders (56-34) bumped their record to a season-best 22 games above .500 and increased their lead over the third-place Red Wings (51-40) to 5.5 games in the International League North standings.

Luis Cessa (3-1) polished off five dominant innings by retiring 10 straight. The right-hander limited the Red Wings to an unearned run on three hits. Cessa walked one and struck five. Logan Darnell (8-8) was stuck with the tough-luck loss after yielding two unearned runs on three hits early in his seven innings of work.

Kirby Yates worked around two base runners to hold the Red Wings off the board in the eighth and ninth for his first save with the RailRiders.

Darin Mastroianni scored the only run for Rochester in the first inning. He began with a single off Cessa and moved to second on a passed ball. He later scored from third on a one-out single to right by Jorge Polanco.

The deciding two runs for SWB came without a base hit in the second inning. Tyler Austin led off with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Cesar Puello then pulled a sharp grounder inside third that was misplayed on the backhand by Beresford. Austin scored to tie the game 1-1 and Puello advanced to second on the error.

Ike Davis moved Puello to third on a groundout to first. With the infield in, Jonathan Diaz chopped a two-hopper to short. Puello broke on contact and scored ahead of the throw from Wilfredo Tovar for what proved to be the deciding run.

Ben Gamel finished the night 2-for-4 with a double, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. He has reached safely in 16 straight overall.
