B-METS WIN 5-2

Most Valuable Plaia Secures 5-2 Victory
READING, PA – Colton Plaia belted a two-run homer in the ninth, his first as a B-Met, to highlight a personal three-hit night and seal Binghamton’s 5-2 win over the Reading Fightin Phils on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. The B-Mets victory snapped an eight-game losing streak against Reading which dated back to last season.
Plaia started his big night, and put the B-Mets on the board, with a two-out RBI single in the second inning. In the third, Victor Cruzado threaded a two-run homer inside the right-field foul pole. The outfielder’s blast, his sixth of the season and first away from NYSEG Stadium, gave the B-Mets a 3-0 lead.
Rainy Lara, thrust back into the rotation in place of Josh Zeid, slipped out of two majors jams over five scoreless innings before handing off to the bullpen in the sixth. The righty left three aboard in the first and escaped another bases-loaded pinch in the fourth.
Reading powered back in the eighth and chopped Binghamton’s lead down to one with back-to-back home runs from Jorge Alfaro and Dylan Cozens against reliever Tim Peterson.
Bidding for insurance in the ninth, Jayce Boyd extended his hitting streak to ten games with a single. Plaia kicked Binghamton’s lead back to three by golfing a 1-1 pitch from Mark Leiter Jr. over the left-field wall. It was his first homer since he went deep on April 21, 2015 as a St. Lucie Met.
David Roseboom secured his seventh save in as many chances with a perfect ninth inning.
Lara (6-7) allowed two hits, stranded six and held the Fightins hitless in six at-bats with runners in scoring position to collect the victory.
Reading starter Thomas Eshelman (1-2) allowed three runs on three hits over four innings before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the fourth.
The B-Mets (48-53) conclude their three-game series against the Fightin Phils on Wednesday at 7:05 PM. RHP Mickey Jannis takes the hill against RHP Ricardo Pinto. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting a 6:50 PM on News Radio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
