De La Cruz, B-Mets, Walk-Off on Yard Goats, 3-2
BINGHAMTON, NY- Maikis De La Cruz delivered a pinch-hit, walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th inning and the Binghamton Mets defeated the Hartford Yard Goats, 3-2. L.J Mazzilli led off the 13th with a single and moved to third on a Colton Plaia single. The Yard Goats then intentionally walked Stefan Sabol to load the bases. De La Cruz smacked a pinch-hit single up the middle, scoring Mazzilli and giving the B-Mets a 3-2, walk-off win.
It was Binghamton’s fourth walk-off of the season and the first since Stefan Sabol ended a 13-inning affair with Hartford on June 10.
Binghamton struck first with a two-out rally in the first. Amed Rosario singled, Dominic Smith singled then Victor Cruzado lined a single up the middle, scoring Rosario. Binghamton would load the bases but strand all three men, ending the first with a 1-0 lead.
Hartford answered in the second as Noel Cuevas led off with a walk. Jan Vazquez later drove in Cuevas with a single, tying the game at one.
In the fourth, Cuevas led off with a single and took second as Sabol bobbled the ball in right. Ryan McMahon then hit a bouncer to second that went under Mazzilli’s glove, an error that allowed Cuevas to score. The unearned run gave Hartford a 2-1 lead.
Binghamton tied it in the sixth as Rosario walked and took third on a Smith single. Cruzado lofted a shallow fly to left that Dillon Thomas could not field cleanly. He recovered to force out Smith at second but Rosario scored on the play, tying the game at two.
Rafael Montero allowed two runs, one earned, with five strikeouts in six innings and took a no-decision. Logan Taylor (4-0) earned the win with three strikeouts in two perfect innings of relief. The B-Mets bullpen combined for seven scoreless innings.
Rosario was 1-for-3 with three walks and two runs, Smith went 2-for-5 and Cruzado finished 1-for-6 with two RBI.
