RAILRIDERS
GAME REPORT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Toledo 3 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 0
TOLEDO, OH (July 18, 2018) –The Toledo Mud Hens avoid a sweep of a three-game series Wednesday as they knocked off the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 3-0.
Before a crowd of 8,015 at Fifth Third Field, five of the first eight batters reached base in the game for Toledo and that sparked an early lead that was all the offense needed in a winning effort. Toledo opened the scoring in the bottom of the first off starting pitcher Josh Rogers. MLB rehabber Leonys Martin doubled to begin the game and moved to third on when Jacob Robson reached on a bunt. Dixon Machado, the third batter of the inning, doubled home Martin and Robson scored on a groundout later in the frame for a 2-0 lead.
The Mud Hens added a run on a pair of walks and no hits against Rogers in the second. Mike Gerber scored on a fielder’s choice to extend the lead to 3-0. That would be it off RailRiders pitching the rest of the way, but it was more than enough for Toledo’s pitching.
Following the consecutive walks to begin the 2nd inning Rogers retired 12 straight batters, walked the leadoff man in the sixth and retired the final three batters in the inning to close his outing. J.P. Feyereisen entered and allowed one hit over the final two shutout innings, lowering his season ERA to 1.57. Over the final 27 outs (9.0 IP), RailRiders pitching allowed just one hit.
The offensive star on the night for the RailRiders was Tyler Austin who doubled twice to collect two of the three hits managed by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the game.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre opens a four-game set in Columbus on Thursday night at Huntington Park. The RailRiders have RHP Erik Swanson (1-1, 4.30) on the mound while the Clippers have not yet announced their starter. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:35 p.m. with Adam Marco and Adam Giardino on NEPA Sports Radio The Game and the RailRiders Radio Network. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre returns to PNC Field on July 24 to open a six-game homestand with a three-game series against the Charlotte Knights.
