LPGA Foundation and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Develop Next Generation of Female Leaders

 

Executive women’s panel to headline two-day LPGA Leadership Academy at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club where the theme will be "Live Fearless"

 

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., July 12, 2018 – The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Foundation will join forces with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) to help develop the next generation of female leaders in North Carolina at the LPGA Leadership Academy later this month.

 

The two-day event, presented by Blue Cross NC, will be held from July 24-25 at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina – a venue which has held three U.S. Women’s Opens and has a fourth scheduled for 2022.

 

A key component of the Leadership Academy will be an executive women’s panel discussion. Two-time Olympic gold medalist, Women's World Cup soccer champion and Blue Cross NC "Live Fearless" Brand Ambassador Mia Hamm, and twice LPGA Tour winner Laura Diaz, will be among the panelists.

"The LPGA Academy is all about encouraging young women take a Live Fearless approach to life. We are excited to bring the Academy to North Carolina."

 

The LPGA Foundation introduced the two-day LPGA Leadership Academy in 2015 to engage teenage girls in golf and provide them with a framework to develop confidence and enhance their communication and leadership skills. Group leadership exercises, expert-led discussions, journaling and interaction with female executives and mentors help young women focus on their individual strengths and leadership style.

 

The LPGA Leadership Academy uses the game of golf as a platform and learning tool to:

 

-           Teach young women how to become better decision makers                          

-           Overcome and let go of setbacks

-           Take calculated risks and embrace opportunities

-           Develop skills to accomplish specific goals

-           Play their own game and find their own voice

 

Leadership Academy events have already been held this year in Minnesota and Georgia with three more to come, in California and in North Carolina this month and in New York in August. Each LPGA Leadership Academy hosts 40 girls aged 13-18.

 

In addition to attending the Academy, each participant will be eligible to apply for The LPGA Foundation Scholars Program which includes invitations to LPGA events, mentoring programs and a $5,000 college scholarship.
