BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton bashed four home runs Monday night at NYSEG Stadium, en route to 16-2 series-opening win against Portland. Welcoming the Sea Dogs to the Southern Tier for the first time since April 8, the Rumble Ponies collected three two-run home runs in a six-run sixth inning, while four Binghamton batters finished with at least three hits. Binghamton’s win snaps a four-game losing skid.
Binghamton’s offensive onslaught started in the second inning, powered by a leadoff home run from Joey Terdoslavich. After a walk to Josh Allen and a double by Jhaon Urena, Tim Tebow brought home his 36th RBI with a groundout to make it 2-0. Andrew Ely capped the four-run second with a two-run triple to push Binghamton in front 4-0.
Justin Dunn worked into and out of trouble in the early innings and was the beneficiary of back-to-back inning-ending double plays in the second and third frames. The only two runs he allowed came on three straight two-out hits in the fourth inning, Portland’s only runs of the night.
The Ponies, after scoring six more runs from the third through fifth innings, opened the flood games in the sixth inning. Tomas Nido mashed the first home run of the frame, a two-run shot, over the wall in centerfield. Following a pair of outs, Binghamton replicated their early-inning success with another single-home run combo. Tebow extended his hitting streak to a 12 games with a soft single to left, before being brought in on Champ Stuart’s two-run blast. Already ahead 14-2, Andrew Ely kept the inning alive with a single, before Levi Michael’s longball made it 16-2. The Ponies sent nine batters to the plate, scoring six runs on six hits.
Dunn (4-2) tossed six innings for the sixth time in seven Eastern League starts, winning for the third straight time. He struck out six Sea Dogs without issuing a free pass.
Kyle Hart, meanwhile, (6-6) lasted just four innings. He coughed up eight runs on nine hits and walked three. The Eastern League All-Star has lost twice in three starts against Binghamton this season.
Ryder Ryan and Stephen Nogosek combined to toss three scoreless innings out of the Binghamton bullpen.
Binghamton (44-48) and Portland play a pair on Tuesday evening. RHP Mickey Jannis duels LHP Dedgar Jimenez with first pitch scheduled for 5:35 PM. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 5:20 PM and can be heard on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn.
