INDIANAPOLIS, IN (June 1, 2018) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre shutout the Indianapolis Indians 4-0 at Victory Field on Friday evening. Chance Adams struck out seven over five and two-thirds and Mike Ford drove in a pair to back the starter in the series opener.
In the top of the first, Clint Frazier scored on a two-out single from Ford off Indians starting pitcher J.T. Brubaker.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre added a pair of runs in the fifth against Brubaker with Ford doubling in Frazier and Kyle Higashioka providing run-scoring single, plating Brandon Drury, to give the RailRiders a 3-0 lead.
Billy McKinney led off the top of the eighth with a solo home run off Dovydas Neverauskas. It was McKinney’s third home run over the last four games and extended the advantage to 4-0.
Adams (2-2) allowed a single in the first, third and two more in the fifth, but only faced three batters with a runner in scoring position. Cale Coshow and Cody Carroll completed the shutout bid; the fourth this season by the RailRiders and second on this road trip. Brubaker (2-2) allowed the first three runs and took the loss; the sixth straight for Indianapolis.
Drury, Ford and Higashioka collected six of the nine hits in the game for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Drury extended his on-base streak to 24 consecutive games.
Game two of this series is scheduled for Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Justus Sheffield (0-1, 1.65) will start for the RailRiders against the Indians and Clay Holmes (2-3, 5.05).
