INDIANAPOLIS, IN (June 2, 2018) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lost 8-0 to the Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field Saturday night. Clay Holmes pitched seven shutout innings, limiting the RailRiders to six hits over seven shutout innings, striking out eight.
Indianapolis took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first off Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starting pitcher Justus Sheffield. Kevin Newman doubled and Max Moroff walked. With two down, Jacob Stallings plated both with a broken-bat single. After an Eric Wood single, Kevin Kramer’s sixth home run of the year, 371 feet to right-center, pushed the Indians lead to 5-0.
Sheffield (0-2) settled in from the second through the fifth, walking one and retiring 11 straight to close his outing before walking the final batter he faced.
In the sixth, Sheffield walked the leadoff batter and was lifted. Reliever Brady Lail allowed three consecutive singles, including a RBI knock by Kramer to extend the edge to 6-0. Indianapolis added one more run on a double play for a 7-0 lead. The Indians added a run on a sac fly in the eighth to cap the scoring.
Clay Holmes (3-3) earned the victory and was backed up by scoreless innings from Josh Smoker and Johnny Hellweg.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s Brandon Drury singled in the fourth to extend his on-base streak to 25 straight games.
The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre concludes their six-game road trip on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. Josh Rogers (5-3, 2.48) will start for the RailRiders against Tyler Eppler (4-2, 3.14) and the Indians.
