Cave Homers, ‘Riders Fall to Bisons
Aaron Hicks Doubles in Second Rehab Outing
Moosic, Pa. – The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) dropped a 4-2 to the Buffalo Bisons on Thursday night at PNC Field. The Bisons (47-64) won two-of-three to claim the series, just the second set defeat for the RailRiders (69-41) since early May. SWB finishes 13-7 against the Bisons.
The Bisons plated four runs on six hits against Caleb Smith (8-1) to hand the southpaw his first loss with SWB. Smith walked three and struck out two over his five innings. Nick Tepesch (2-3) surrendered a two-run homer to Jake Cave in the first inning, but held the RailRiders to one hit over his final four frames. Tepesch yielded four knocks, one walk and had one strikeout. Leonel Campos pitched around two base runners in the ninth for his sixth save.
Cave’s homer extended his hitting streak to 18 games, tying Rob Refsnyder and Tyler Wade for the longest by a RailRider this year. Cave has hit safely in 23 consecutive games at PNC Field.
Aaron Hicks doubled in the first inning and finished 1-for-3 with a walk. He is 2-for-6 on his rehab assignment.
Tyler Austin played five innings at first base and was 0-for-2 at the plate with a pair of groundouts.
Nick Rumbelow fired two scoreless frames in relief. He struck out one, walked one and allowed a single. The right-hander increased his scoreless innings streak to 15.0 innings with SWB (eight appearances).
The 2016 Gildan Triple-A National Champion RailRiders welcome the Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox) to PNC Field on Friday, August 4, at 7:05 p.m. The final three-game series between the clubs for 2017 will feature right-hander Luis Cessa (4-6, 3.80) opposite right-hander Justin Haley (1-0, 3.09) in the opening tilt. The first 1,000 fans will receive a mystery bobblehead from around the sports world, courtesy Brucelli Advertising. The RailRiders will wear alternate uniforms as part of Glow in the Park Night and their will be postgame fireworks, presented by King’s College!
