RailRiders Drop Two to G-Braves
Greg Bird Finishes 0-for-2 in First Rehab Outing with SWB
Moosic, Pa. – The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) dropped both ends of a quasi-doubleheader to the Gwinnett Braves on Wednesday night at PNC Field. The Braves (61-60) finished Tuesday’s suspended game with a 9-4 final before taking the nightcap 4-1 for their sixth straight victory. The RailRiders slipped to 77-45.
Chance Adams (9-4) yielded a season-worst four runs on six hits over five innings in the nightcap. Ronald Acuna’s three-run homer off the right-hander in the fifth inning was the difference. Matt Wisler (7-5) grabbed the win in relief after holding the RailRiders scoreless for 2.1 innings. Greg Bird began his Major League rehab assignment by playing five innings at first base. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout. Nick Rumbelow fired two scoreless frames behind Adams to run his scoreless innings streak to 22.1.
The Braves were 9-for-19 with men in scoring position in their suspended game victory. SWB pitching surrendered a season-high 16 hits. Domingo German (4-2) allowed five runs, four earned, on eight hits over five innings. Dan Winkler (1-0) took home the winning decision after a scoreless inning in relief. He allowed two hits. Tyler Austin launched his seventh homer with SWB and ended the game 3-for-5.
The 2016 Gildan Triple-A National Champion RailRiders look for a win against the Gwinnett Braves (Atlanta Braves) on Thursday, August 17, that would clinch the season series. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Brady Lail (5-4, 5.03) will start against right-hander Aaron Blair (7-6, 4.39). The first 2,500 fans through the gates will receive a Joe Maddon poster giveaway and the team will sport special Kaigan Foundation jerseys as part of Hazleton Night!
