Early Offense Continues RailRiders’ Roll
Four Pitchers Combine for Team’s 12th Shutout Victory
Lawrenceville, Ga. – The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) claimed their sixth straight regular season victory at Coolray Field on Monday night, shutting out the Gwinnett Braves 5-0. The RailRiders (73-41) have won four straight overall and, including last year’s Governors’ Cup Championship Series, have blanked the G-Braves (55-58) for 27 straight innings in North Georgia.
The RailRiders ignited for five runs over the first four innings against Kris Medlen (1-5). Billy McKinney opened the second frame with a double. Following a Donovan Solano walk, Cito Culver boomed a one-out double to left-center. McKinney scored on the play for a 1-0 lead. Eddy Rodriguez made it 2-0 with a single to left. A fielder’s choice by Mason Williams plated Culver and Williams raced home on a double by Jake Cave to cap a four-run frame.
Solano rounded out the scoring in the fourth when he towered his second homer of the year over the left-center wall.
Four pitchers combined to retire 18 of the final 20 batters and 22-of-26 to finish the team’s 12th shutout win. Brady Lail fired 4.2 innings of four-hit ball and struck out five. J.P. Feyereisen (2-2) took home the winning decision after two scoreless frames in relief. The right-hander walked one and struck out two. Jonathan Holder tossed 1.1 stanzas and Ben Heller finished the game with a perfect ninth.
The 2016 Gildan Triple-A National Champion RailRiders go for a series win at Coolray Field on Tuesday night. First pitch against the Gwinnett Braves (Atlanta Braves) is set for 7:05 p.m. Left-hander Caleb Smith (8-1, 2.35) is scheduled to face southpaw Luiz Gohara (0-1, 4.22).
