Acevedo Triumphs in Triple-A Debut
Fires Seven Innings of Three-Hit Ball
Buffalo, N.Y. – The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) got a stellar performance from Domingo Acevedo in his Triple-A debut and routed the host Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays) on Friday night, 8-1. The RailRiders (37-26) won for the fifth time in seven games while the Bisons (34-31) lost for just the fifth time over their last 15 home games.
The RailRiders got all the runs they would need with a three-spot in the third against starter Luis Santos (2-6). With one out, Wilkin Castillo doubled, Tyler Wade walked and Dustin Fowler drove them both home with a double to right-center. Later in the inning, Ji-Man Choi’s sac fly to center plated Fowler for a 3-0 lead.
An inning later, Wade’s two-out RBI double made it 4-0 and lengthened the IL’s longest active hitting streak to 15 games.
During that time, Acevedo (1-0) amassed seven innings of three-hit, one-run ball for the victory. His greatest challenge came in the fifth. With two out, Ian Parmley doubled and then scored on former RailRider Gregorio Petit’s single. Successive walks to Rowdy Tellez and Mike Ohlman loaded the bases. But facing longtime Major League veteran Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Acevedo induced a fly-out to center field to end the inning. That sparked a surge of seven straight Bisons retired to end his outing.
Up 4-1 entering the seventh, the RailRiders blew the game open by batting around against reliever Murphy Smith. Tyler Austin delivered an RBI single to make it 5-1 and Clint Frazier later clobbered a three-run homer to left field, his team-leading 12th dinger of the year, to round out the scoring.
The series continues with a doubleheader at 5:35 p.m. on Saturday. SWB’s Chance Adams (3-2, 2.52) will face fellow right-hander Mike Bolsinger (2-1, 1.17) in the opener while southpaw Joe Mantiply (3-3, 2.93) gets the ball in the nightcap against righty Lucas Harrell (0-0, 0.00). The RailRiders return home on Monday, June 19 with a 7:05 p.m. contest against the Syracuse Chiefs (Washington Nationals). The Dollar Dog Monday sports $1 lawn tickets, $1 hot dogs and fans can bring their pup to the ballpark for just $1.
