RAILRIDERS LOSE FINALE 6-4

IronPigs Claim Finale, Split Series
Wade Posts Three Hits, Extends Hitting Streak to 11

Allentown, Pa. – The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) saw a 4-0 lead evaporate as the host Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies) claimed Sunday afternoon’s series finale, 6-4. The RailRiders (35-25) settled for a split of the set while the IronPigs (42-21) improved upon the best record in minor league baseball.

A three-spot in the first inning got the RailRiders off on the right foot. Donovan Solano drove in two runs while Gleyber Torres’ sac fly added a run that frame. In the second, Dustin Fowler’s RBI single made it 4-0.

That seemed to be enough for starter Chance Adams, who allowed one run on a Hector Gomez homer through six. But Nick Williams began the seventh with a triple to right-center. After Gomez whiffed, a wild pitch gave Williams the plate. Pedro Florimon grounded out before Jorge Flores worked a full-count, two-out walk that mean the end of Adams’ day.

Tyler Webb emerged from the bullpen and saw four straight IronPigs post hits, largely on soft, well-placed contact. RBI singles by Brock Stassi, Jorge Alfaro and Dylan Cozens had the RailRiders trailing, 5-4.

Williams began the eighth with a homer to right to round out the scoring.

The RailRiders threatened in the ninth against Pedro Beato, putting two men on base. However, Beato struck out Tyler Wade and induced a fly-out to center from Fowler to secure his minor league-best 19th save.

Lehigh Valley reliever Michael Mariot (4-2) earned the win. Webb (3-1) suffered the loss.

Adams gave up three runs on four hits and one walk over 6.2 innings while striking out six.

The RailRiders will enjoy an off day on Monday before the next homestand gets underway on Tuesday, June 13 with a 6:35 p.m. start against the Red Wings. The $2 Tuesday sports $2 lawn tickets and $2 tallboys, presented by La Tolteca. It will also be a Bark in the Park game. For tickets or more information, please call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
