Down Goes Brasier! RailRiders walk-off against PawSox reliever, 4-3
McBroom sacrifice fly plates Clint Frazier who began 9th inning with triple
MOOSIC, Pa. (May 3, 2018) – Clint Frazier was a soggy blur of red running around the bases as the ball bounced to the wall in right-centerfield to begin the bottom of the 9thinning. It was his triple that set the table for Ryan McBroom’s sacrifice fly two batters later for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to drive home the game-winner in a 4-3 victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox.
The PawSox scored a run in the top of the 9th inning to push the game along, 3-3. The RailRiders grabbed the lead in the bottom of the 7th inning in a driving rainstorm with a Zack Zehner two-run HR off the newly-inserted reliever Ty Buttrey. Billy Fleming had singled two batters prior, and after Ryan McBroom struck out, Pawtucket took starting pitcher Jalen Beeks out of the game.
Beeks finished with nine strikeouts over 6.2 innings to raise his season totals to 46 in 26.1 innings pitched (15.7 K/9). Neither starting pitcher factored in the decision with the lead changing hands multiple time over the final few innings, but Nestor Cortes went 3.2 scoreless innings at the start for SWB at the start.
The walkoff win was the second in as many days for the RailRiders, and it was the third overall this season dating back to Opening Night’s thrilling 6-5 comeback win over the Syracuse Chiefs with a five-run bottom of the 9th.
The RailRiders remain at home for Friday’s series-opener against the PawSox as their bitter I.L. North rivalry continues with a 6:35 p.m. scheduled first pitch. RHP Chance Adams (0-2, 5.11) gets the ball for the RailRiders against PawSox RHP William Cuevas (1-1, 3.74).
