Camarena and Lail join forces to shut down Buffalo offense
MOOSIC, Pa. (May 1, 2018) – Strong pitching and timely hitting combined to lead the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to a 7-1 victory over the Buffalo Bisons Tuesday night at PNC Field. The victory ended a four-game losing streak for the RailRiders.
The RailRiders broke out the bats in the bottom of the third, plating three runs on four hits against Ryan Borucki. With the bases loaded, Tyler Wade singled to drive in Billy Fleming with the first run of the game. An RBI single from Thairo Estrada brought home another tally and Brandon Drury grounded into a double play scoring the final run of the stanza.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre padded its lead in the bottom of the fifth when Erik Kratz hit a solo home run to left field. Later in the frame, Kyle Higashioka drilled an opposite field two-run double to extend the advantage to 6-0. Kratz’s home run was his third of the season, which ties him with Higashioka for the team lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, the RailRiders tacked on another run against the Buffalo bullpen. Shane Robinson led off the frame with a hustle double down the left field line and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Fleming grounded out to shortstop to plate Robinson and widen the gap to 7-0.
Daniel Camarena was the star of the game for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, tossing seven scoreless innings. The southpaw scattered five hits and one walk in his outing, striking out a season-high six batters in his first quality start of the year. The six punchouts were the most recorded by Camarena (1-1) in a game since April 28, 2017, against Indianapolis.
Brady Lail allowed a single run on a sacrifice fly in his 2.0 innings of relief. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre recorded 11 hits in the game, led by the bottom third of the lineup combining to go 6-for-10 with four runs scored and two RBIs.
The RailRiders complete their series with the Bisons on Wednesday morning at PNC Field. First pitch is scheduled 10:35 a.m. RHP Brody Koerner (1-1, 5.49) toes the rubber for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while Buffalo sends RHP Sam Gavaglio (0-0, 2.30) to the slab.
